I read many posts since last night and I see we all share one thing in common and that is cognitive distortions. Basically they are irrational or distorted beliefs/thoughts that we tend to be unaware of. I thought I could share this article which describe and explain most of the cognitive distortions. Check it out and try to identify the one you have. Everybody has some it is part of our human nature but for people with anxiety and depression it is 10x more.
Love the article, but references stop at 1996. Is there anything more relevent to our times. I yeah I think there is plenty of merrit, I can actually identify with some of the information but, where did they go with it for 20 years? With Love Always...AU
I know what you mean, the references are old dated. This theory of cognitive distortions was first proposed by Dr. Aaron Beck around the 60s/70s. It is old psychology but it still does have some interesting truth to it. I wish I could found something recent but I haven't search yet, maybe there are some new findings, I think I'll look into it later.
I definitely can identify myself with some of them and it is always interesting to know so I can work on being aware and rationalize my thoughts.
There has been more research regarding cognitive distortions - it hasn’t ended! But it is more targeted with specific groups and conditions (I just took a quick search on my college’s databases and there are a lot of research articles from 2016-2019.)
I think in general therapy or popular psychology the basics work as a good introduction. I remember when therapist gave me a list of them! It took awhile to absorb that info. I think that’s the purpose of the article that Moon_B shared.
I appreciate your attention to that detail !! I can link some articles I’ve been reading, if you’d like!
