THE UGLY TRUTH
My mom is a social worker so it is impossible to talk to her. She tells me my anxiety and depression is all about my state of mind and I need to change it. Like im supposed to just flip the switch in my head and feel better. Of course I want to feel better but sorry mom it doesnt work like that. Every time I try to explain to her how I am feeling she replies with "well why do you feel that way?" its annoying sometimes I have feelings I cant explain so its not worth my time talking to her.
Hi brie,
I'm sorry for the frustration you have trying to share your feelings and thoughts with friends and family. If they don't have depression or anxiety themselves, they just aren't going to understand you. That's what this site is for...we CAN understand you, we've "been there, done that". Come here for understanding, talk to us, we get it. Family and friends?...not so much.
You'll just feel worse for sharing with people who can't imagine what you're going through. That's partly why having a good counselor or therapist is so important for getting better...in them you have someone who understands you and supports you. I don't share with anyone who hasn't been through the same problems and illness because it's too frustrating and painful. I hope you find a kind of peace while NOT sharing with the people in your life who can't understand...but by coming here or sharing with only those who know just what these illnesses are like. I wish you good health and happiness in your near future!
Hugs, Love, and Blessings...
Hello brie1010, unfortunately it’s the ugly truth that one can face every now and then. Only few people can understand and have compassion if they haven’t walked in your shoes. It’s often happened that some people think that you can just shake the feeling off like they do. Don’t blame them because it can be hard to imagine your world. I perfectly understand you and you are not alone. People may get to understand with time. This is the real world we live, and we have to accept that we may not be on the same page with other people. Take one day at a time and enjoy this one life that you have. Have a blessed week.
