Lost a lot of weight

Hi friends, I am experiencing heightened anxiety recently, almost on a daily base. I lost more than 20 pounds over a month (from 165 to 142). Does anybody has similar experience (significant weight loss due to stress/anxiety)? I really worry about something else going on? Thank you!

Hi hzhang35, heightened anxiety can cause both weight loss or weight gain. It depends

on each person's metabolism and how they choose to handle their stress. Twenty pounds

in a month is a lot. It is always best to check with your doctor to rule out any physical

issues. The doctor can address your weight loss if due to anxiety through supplement

healthy drinks. Providing you with the nutrients you need. Keep us updated. We care xx

Thank you, I was not eating well recently, usually a meal a day (upset stomach probably due to stress).

Hi

Are you able to eat and drink properly now?

Not really, but I am trying to eat at regular meal times even I don't have the appetite or have a upset stomach.

Hi have you had your thyroid checked as being over active can cause weight loss. It is a huge amount to lose in one month so you need to tell your doctor anyway. x

I lost about 15 pounds over 3 months, I think due to reduced appetite. It was ok for me, as it was kind of excess weight, and then I stabilized after my anxiety attacks improved. (I also focused a lot on making sure to eat, even while I was very anxious.) This is all just to say: it's not completely unheard of, for someone struggling with anxiety to lose weight.

If you are concerned, you should absolutely see your doctor about it. I saw my GP and mentioned both the weight loss and anxiety disorder. She had some recommendations and asked me to keep an eye on it.

Thank you! I will schedule a checkup with my PCP.
