Over at least the last 6 months I keep loosing clumps of hair. Going to the dermatologist hoping to get something for my scalp to help new hair growth. Sucks

I have been shredding more hair than before. Pretty sure its due to a couple of things. Age and stess.

Some antidepressants can cause hair loss. If interested, check out this article: verywellmind.com/antidepres....

Thanks for the info Scott. I’m not on an antidepressant.

I’ve noticed hair loss since last summer. I started panicking over it. Just recently it has subsided, but I had stopped taking Xanax. I’m thinking it was the Xanax causing it. Now I just need some of the hair that I lost to grow back, and hope that it doesn’t start falling out again.

The only med I can think of it may be is Ativan, similar to the Xanax you have taken. I am having trouble not taking Ativan as I’m really anxious but I guess I will have to go through the extra anxiety to see if i stop loosing hair. Best to you Lostjoy, hope it grows back soon and continues to stop falling out.

I was depending on the Xanax also. It wasn’t easy stopping it. Extreme anxiety for about 3 days. It’s been a month now with no Xanax. My anxiety has subsided, but I still have depression.

Thank you starrlight, for the hope. I had a lot of hair, so I’m not bald, but when my hair parts you can see my scalp. I’m very self conscious.

I hope you can find a solution, and put an end to your hair loss as well.

Keep us posted.

Thank you. (((((Lostjoy)))))) I’m sorry you still deal with depression. Good for you a whole month without Xanax is great. So I hope maybe my withdrawal will only take 3 days and I hope I won’t give in and take it. I’m in a really bad emotional place, just had a fight with my husband, have some stressful things coming up, need to drive but I am scared of panic attacks when driving so ... anyway yeah I had lots of hair too but you can see scalp when parted but I bet it’s not really noticeable, maybe just to us... it will grow back for us I believe.

Ohh it was very hard for me to not take it. I still feel like taking it once in awhile when I’m having a bad moment, but then I think about my hair loss, and the extreme anxiety when it wears off. Those thoughts give me the strength I need to resist it.

I was on here almost nonstop complaining during those 3 days. The anxiety had me feeling so lonely. Thank goodness for understanding people here.

Sorry about the argument with your husband. It’s bad enough having anxiety, then adding an argument on top of it makes your day even worse.

Thank goodness driving has never been an issue for me even when my anxiety was really bad. I do tend to isolate though.

I’m sure your right about our hair issues. It’s probably not as noticeable to everyone else as it is to us. I believe it will grow back also. Just give it a little time.

I’ll be here for support if and when you need it.

Wishing you peace and happiness.

I lost a lot of hair initially from stress...it virtually stopped when I got my anxiety under control.

I am moving forward in getting anxiety under control but it’s still a big issue for me... how did you get anxiety under control?

Medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exercise (yoga).

Sorry to hear of this. I know how distressing it is!!! And, Yes, I think due to stress & malnutrition. I’ve noticed less falling out lately but my hair does feel thinner and drier overall. I just started taking spironolactone which helps decrease the male hormone androgen to minimize hormonal acne which I’m prone too. It also helps minimize hair loss if it is a genetic trait. I used to take it and my skin was the clearest it’s been. My hair was also soft and full. I went off it to try natural remedies but my self care has been lacking for a very long time so I’ve decided to return to it. It’s a pain as I have to take it 2x daily but it’s worth it to me. I haven’t read your replies so I don’t know if you have discovered a remedy. Wishing you best!

Thanks Iris for taking the time. I will make a note of what you used that worked for you. I am now thinking that mine may be heritity too not just stress. My dermatologist said to try men’s rogaine. So if that doesn’t do it I may try what you are using. Best to you!

Thank you & You are very welcome. I take 50mg tabs 2x daily. A fairly low dose. I did a lot of research before taking it as I’m very weary of side effects (& there are those out there that have had negative experiences with this medication as any medication). I decided it was worth it for me to try and I have been completely fine on this dosage. Good luck and let me know how you do!

Have you been investigated for Thyroid problem?

I've only just noticed that this post is 2 year's old! Don't know how I got on to it !!

But glad to hear you stopped the hair loss.

Didn't know there was a medication for it. Both my husband and I suffer hair loss. I have Hypothyroidism , he doesn't but it started when he was on a medication ( antacid ) that he's not on now.

By the way, Thyroid bloods can come back within normal range when you have Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Hashimoto's ). This happened with me. If you have any other symptoms it might be helpful to get full Thyroid tests done including Antibodies :

TPO (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies )

TgAb ( Thyroglobulin Antibodies )

FreeT3

FreeT4

Total T4

TSH

Tests should be done early morning and fasting.

Symptoms of an Underactive Thyroid listed on Thyroid UK website.

Twice. I went bald once. My kids hated the wigs and they were hot. I was rocking the smooth look! The second time clumps came out. I started using dry shampoo. It helped.
