Feeling frightened

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone could offer me some advice. Last Wednesday I stopped my Citalopram on the advice of my GP, due to an abnormal ECG, and today I have been feeling terrible. I felt ok when I got up this morning but as the day has gone my mood has taken a massive dip. My head is full of pessimistic thoughts and my mood is spiralling downwards. I have got an appointment on Tuesday for another ECG followed by a consult with my GP. I am worried that she will advise me to stay off my antidepressants and I don’t know how I’ll cope. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi shenew. Sorry to hear your feeling rough. Citalopram has a half life of about 35 hours so it is definitely out of your system by now. You haven't mentioned any other physical side effects so it seems like u've avoided those 👍 if it's any consolation, when I came off citalopram, I had such bad withdrawal. I swear down even my teeth felt like they were itching and my gums were burning as well as dizziness, nausea, headaches and the shakes.im so glad you haven't had to go through that!!! ❤️ Can you try other meds upon advice from your doctor? If your thoughts are obsessive, have you thought about fluoxitine/Prozac? Not sure about how this would affect your ECG etc tho xxx in the meantime, take one day at a time until Tuesday so you will get all the information you need to make an informed choice and decide your next steps XXX your moidnsy even balance out somewhat. It's really early days at the moment and it is an adjustment xxx

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t mention other problems as my mood dip is all I can think about at the moment, but for the past 2/3 hours I’ve been feeling dizzy too. Could this be a withdrawal problem?

Sorry to hear your experiencing that as well. The dip in mood makes everything harder to deal with too doesn't it?! 😥😥😥 I suffered with dizziness amongst the other symptoms I mentioned for approx two weeks after stopping the meds but was physically completely fine after that. As for my mood, I'm in different meds now (fluoxitine) which suits me but there are other avenues to explore other than meds if you want to take this as an opportunity to see what's out there for you 👍 I really hope you feel better soon xxx
