Why is it so hard to get a medication that treats depression when you have bipolar and have it not cause an increase in mania?

Two of my sisters have depression and bipolar they both take lithium for bipolar.

It is just anti-depressants you can't take with bipolar as they can trigger the mania but they are drugs which target bipolar such as respiridone or lithium or quietiapine and alprazolam and lamictal ; so it is only anti depressants you can't take.
