Bipolar Depression?

I've lost interest in things I used to do. My grades are suffering a little because I've missed so many days of school. I get sick a lot, so when I come back to school from my break I feel extremely overwhelmed since I have so much work to do. I'm not happy anymore. I've felt worthless for the last 5yrs. I don't know how to make myself feel happy. Some days I find myself not wanting to get out of bed, while others I'll be in a great mood. My mom tries to tell me she doesn't think it's bipolar depression, but I'm starting to think it is from what I've heard about the condition. What is going on with me?

You sound like you're dealing with depression. What variety is not obvious at this point. You're only exhibiting depression, no mania and nothing more. You do need to see a doctor because your depression is interrupting your school and life in a big way. You aren't just having a bad couple of days, this is far too much for too long. Feeling worthless is just a typical effect of depression, it's not a realistic view of your true self. You need to be on an antidepressant and in counseling so that maybe you can take the antidepressant for only a season or so and get educated about your depression and hopefully not need the medicine after awhile.

I've been through what you're experiencing but eventually it goes away when you get on your medicines and you forget about when you didn't feel so good because you're busy doing all of the normal things in life and back to feeling pretty good. You can feel good again and normal and happy so don't give up. Keep on top of your doctor and let him/her know if your medicine isn't right and you don't feel good. It can be increased or decreased as needed or changed to something even better. Take care and I'm available if you have any questions or just want to vent.

Thank you so much for that . I'm going to see a therapist today . I've known I've had depression for a long time . I can't tell you how much I wanted to hear what you said from anyone .

You should talk to a Dr. About it. I have depression,OCD and anxiety and I was feeling ok till the last few days. So mood swings aren't always bipolar. Have you been on meds or seen a therapist ? Don't judge yourself. I would definitely see a Dr.

My first session went well ! My therapist said I am going through depression . She's going to try and figure out if I'm going to be on antidepressants or not . We'll figure that out maybe the next session or the one after that .

I'm so glad for you! You seem more than satisfied with your therapist. I feel that you are in good hands and starting your recovery. Please be prepared that you will still have some times when you think you have taken a step backwards, but that's ok. You don't get better in a straight, upward line, you have little wavy ups and downs but overall the trajectory is upward.
