Does anyone have BPD (borderline personality disorder) and Bipolar disorder?

I have bipolar with a sprinkle of anxiety, but as I read more and more about BPD I'm staring to think I've been misdiagnosed or I have BPD as well as bipolar 2. Does anyone can explain to me how BPD feels on a daily basis?

Hi! I was told years ago I may have BPD. Do not have Bipolar. Very infrequent anxiety mostly related to absorbing stress from daughter problems.

I find my depression/anxiety becomes worse due to boyfriend breakups. Split with 1.5 year relationship & extremely depressed. Two previous divorces/a few serious relationships. Boyfriend & I are back seeing each other but only really see him on weekends. And an occasional weeknight for quick dinner. Works out way better! Gives me time to work on me during the week. He works f/t & he needs rest after. So all better! I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Lena, I have been diagnosed with BPD although my GP thinks there is some BiPolar in there as well although they will leave the diagnosis at BPD because the meds I take are exactly the same for both. I did STEPPS and there was a lady on that course who had a dual diagnosis of BiPolar and BPD. We talked about it and the reason she got the dual diagnosis (and the reasons are similar why my GP feels that I have traits of both) is that generally with BPD your mood swings are very rapid (mine can change hourly from feeling suicidal to being manic) and either a depressive or manic episode rarely last more than a day or two. Compared to BiPolar (so I believe) the depressive episode can last months, then there is a period of "normality" before a period of mania which lasts days / weeks. Therefore, I strongly believe you can have both but only a psychiatrist would be able to diagnose you properly. It might be worth keeping a "mood" diary so you can see how your mood changes daily, what triggers that feeling, how you dealt with it. That way you will have something to show your GP and maybe get a referral to a psychiatrist for a definite diagnosis. Good luck xxx
