I just joined. My history of depression, anxiety, and PTSD is long. I have just been diagnosed with a panic disorder. Panic does not seem to be a strong enough word for what I have been coping with. It is more like terror. I am on meds and in therapy. My therapist wants me to do more breathing and guided meditation, though neither pops into my mind when things are bad. I know a lot of people don't like meds, but I just wish I could add another pill and have it go away. Or as Huey Lewis would say, I need a new drug....

Hi CynthiaMarie and Welcome. Your therapist is correct in wanting you to do more deep
breathing and meditation. The benefits from those methods can reduce your terror symptoms drastically. The thing is that we cannot wait until the moment we are in panic.
It must become a daily practice, a lifestyle change so that when the need arises, you are
well prepared and respond quickly. I use Meditation and Deep Breathing daily. First
thing upon awakening, mid afternoon and before falling asleep at night.
Throughout the day, whatever I am doing, I deep breathe. Whether it's driving, shopping,
while on the forum or just sitting watching tv. It feels so good to have that control over
my body and emotions. Medications aren't really the answer long term.
Finding what methods work for us best is. I'm glad you are here with us. We support you xx
