Traveling with anxiety

Today I am going on a 10 day trip far far from home. This I planned and booked far in advance so I wasn't expecting to be this anxious when day comes. Now it is here and I feel scared. I am telling myself : whatever happens you are going to stay alive, nobody died of anxiety and panic.

Going far from home or a place that is not familiar is always scary and dealing with anxiety makes it a lot scarier from being so uncertain how it’s going to all happen. Try to focus on the great experiences you will get from this trip and why you booked it in the first place. You will be fine and your trip will be something that you could always remember 😊

Going on holiday always involves extra anxiety and if you have anxiety disorder every small anxiety is exaggerated ten fold. So inevitably we all feel over anxious when we go on a trip.

Just accept the anxiety knowing why you feel that way. As your trip progresses the anxiety will subside, you will be occupied by enjoyable sights and experiences.

All things will be well, just accept for moment any wobbly feelings, they are harmless and won't last long. I hope you have a great trip.

😊 Looks like we're both going on vacation around the same time & like you I'm really anxious too. My therapist suggested I pack some self care items. I have lavender oil, a good book, a small stuff animal, journal & some extra special treats for the flight. I have the Calm app on my phone (helps with stress & anxiety) & of course this site. My meds are already packed, so I don't forget them. It's hard to leave our "safe place"... but we'll be okay. Hope you enjoy your trip.

One thing that’s helped me when I get anxious on trips is I call people from home, so you can talk to someone familiar and get some anxiety out. If you travel overseas, you can pay for a day at a time and makes calls home that way. I use Verizon and pay $10 a day. Hope this helps!

Once you get to your destination I think you will feel better. That happens to me when I have really bad anxiety and travel. I get scared and then once I get there I have a great time. Deep breaths and enjoy your trip!

Yes, I also have a trip planned to see my grandson for the weekend. It's hard going home, and seeing all the things, and places that reminds me of the times that his mother and myself would do on our outings. I also have a great deal of anxiety, but I am using the same advice that the other members were giving you, and together we will overcome any anxiety together, and have a wonderful time!!!

I am here if you need me😊😊😊!!!

God Bless you and your family to and from your locations.

I understand your feelings. I felt the same way when I made an overseas trip for 7 weeks a few years ago. I agree with everyone else's good advice and wish I had known some of those things when I made the trip.

What worked for me was focusing on the new experiences I would have and the joy of teaching new students (I went to Spain to teach a course). It helped a little that I had been there before about 30 years ago.

For me, the hardest part of the trip was the flight there. I was on my own and suffered a severe panic attack. Fortunately, my wife accompanied me for the trip back.

Try to be as comfortable as possible on the trip. That was the hardest thing for me. I hate cramped conditions and being in the air for several hours just made that worse. If you are the same way, see if there is some meds you can take that will ease the strain of the claustrophobia.

HI just keep thinking all will be well all will be good just think of the time when you booked your trip how excited you were about it also maybe next time you can get 5 mg of Diazepam. I usually take half about an hour before and that really helps try B12. say your prayers and you will have so much fun at the place that you're going. just keep focusing on that and enjoy every moment while you're there. Hopefully on the way back you can watch some really neat movies read a nice book look at a magazine with beautiful pictures. prayers love and hugs are with you

Remember! It is just that! A panic attack! You deserve some relaxation! I know its easier said than done but you really deserve it. Remember, it’s just anxiety! Of course it comes the day of. It wants to steal your joy. Prove it wrong. Have a blast and remember you have a whole community here if you get to feeling overwhelmed ❤️

I also struggle with travels. Keep in mind it's going to be amazing, a moment to rest your mind. It's going to be alright. I hope you have a great time. Do you use breathing exercises? It always help me specially when I'm on a moment of waiting like on the plane or something.

I wish you all the best!
