Help me, it's dark in here.

I am stuck in a muddy pit. The more I scramble to climb out, the further down I slip. Anything I grasp at to help pull myself out gives out. I am alone, though many people are looking down from the top. My God, I think the bottom of this pit has dropped out. Can no one help me out of the abyss?
