Healthy diet=healthy mind?

I've always been sceptical whether eating healthier could really improve my mental health. Don't get me wrong, I thought I ate decently, although I didn't really eat fruit. But once I saw a hypnotherapist, she said she couldn't treat me unless I changed my diet. So I have tried eating more fruit, making healthier swaps and keeping a food diary. Over the past few weeks, I have noticed that I've been happier, and I've had more positive relationships with my family. I haven't noticed a major change for my mental health YET, but I feel like improving other things is a good start. The problem comes when you bring in other factors. is it really the diet thats making me feel better? Or is it just the mindset that it is? Either way, I'm going to keep going. I'll never be vegan or a veggie but thats not my aim. I think that making any positive changes to your diet can make a big difference, even if at the beginning you just feel proud that you've actually eaten an apple...

Thats what I was like, and still am like. But what I was told is that its because we're addicted to sugar which causes your brain to fire really rapidly which increases anxiety and things, and then you get the sugar crash. its obviously impossible to cut out sugar completely, but I think I've realised that the foods that I thought made me happy, maybe tasted good at the time but then I would feel worse

How many weeks have it been since you started, how long did it take for you to see the results

I've been trying to eat healthier for 3/4 weeks, and it was just kind of suddenly I realised, hey I've actually had a pretty positive week and I had been a lot happier and less snappy. Obviously that won't be the same for everyone, but I do recommend trying to switch it up a little cos it will be better for your body and state of mind. Apparently it can take up to 6 weeks to see changes after doing it because your body needs time to take in the vitamins and things but if you keep eating healthier consistently there should be a big impact

Well, vegans certainly eat healthy, but every vegan I've known has been pretty much bat sheet crazy loll. No offense to any vegans out there intended! And I've always eaten healthy although not vegan as I love a good burger now and then, and I have never been the poster child of good mental health, but i do have my good days, in fact I didn't even here any voices in my head today. Actually I think we do feel better physically when we eat healthy, and when we feel better it can't help but improve our mental health. If we don't take care of our health and are overweight etc, I think it contributes to depression because that alone can make some of us get down on ourselves.

That's exactly how I feel! It's definitely worth it as it can stabilise your hormones too!

I tried of lot of diets, but with no results, I tried even fasting, but no result. In anxiety, diet have just a little contribution.

Its about a balanced diet, not cutting out food!

I don't think that's something you should be bringing up on a website like this

What I want to say is the fact that for me diet is not helpful in anxiety.

Ok thank you for sharing your opinion, but everybody is different!

I’ve also read a lot about the brain-gut axis. My doctor believes that illness arises from a bad gut - not from your brain. I’ e Added a probiotic to my diet. It’s not a cure for anxiety but I may be worse without it!

Glad you’re sharing this, friend! Studies show proof that every serving of fresh produce contributes to better mood. Sugar Blues is a classic book that explains a lot. Ultra processed food is undoubtedly a part of a miserable mood. Easy to remember: bad food equals bad mood. The chemicals and preservatives in processed food mess up your gut, therefore mess up your brain. Give it up bit by bit and you’ll see your mood lift.
