Group therapy

I went for a psychological evaluation on Friday because my regular therapist suggested that I needed a more intensive program. After speaking to them, they recommended that I come for a 3 day a week program for 4-6 weeks while I’m supposed to be working. I’m not sure if they truly understand how adults get the money that we make...... how am I supposed to take off of work for 18 days for a 6 week period and keep my job.

I am highly reactive and the tiniest things make my anxiety and stress worse. I’ve been crying on and off today because I am going back to work tomorrow after having a break(school schedule) and because of my toxic ex. To no avail, who emails me because I have his phone number blocked.... yep the toxic ex. I took an anxiety pill and still feel like my heart is going to explode. I basically told him that I felt really sorry for his current gf and her kids and hope she figured it out sooner than I did. I just want to wake up “normal” one day.

Hi Kc2424,

IOPs (Intensive Outpatient Programs) and PHP's (Partial Hospitalization Programs) are fantastic, but I hear you. I have a suggestion. Maybe you can fashion together a more intensive program that fits your schedule. Maybe you can see if your therapist twice a week at times that work for you, and also do an evening group therapy or CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) class once a week? I can give you more info on these classes if you are interested (and if they are available where you are). They are excellent for anxiety and depression. Insurance usually covers them.

On the other hand, if you are barely staying afloat right now, it may be a good idea to talk to your people at work about a modified work schedule for awhile and make this program happen. These kinds of intensive programs can be incredibly helpful.

Group therapy is just amazing !!! The only thing you need to do there is participate as much as possible! Talk to your boss. It’s worth it. I took 12 weeks programme, we were meeting for half day each day. I found out so much about myself, some things are just so deep inside us that we no longer see them but they weight us so much.
