hi everyone, it is my first time writing a post, I was diagnosed with depression few months ago as I decided to immigrate to another country around two years ago ( I went through a lot by myself) but I received the right support, felt better and got off meds. now I moved back home for my wedding ( which is three weeks from now) but my family arent supportive of anything that I do, they wont oblige me to do anything but they keep reminding me that I am making the wrong decision marrying my fiance. I am feeling very depressed again, I have suicidal intentions. I do not know what to do...I feel very lonely too!

Taking yourself out of the equation is never the answer. Take a deep breath get a pen and note pad and start writing down the things that are making you depressed......this will help you to get it out. No matter how big or small the list write it down get it out. Getting it out will help you clear your mind to deal with the problem or problems holding them in or sharing with people you feel don't care will make you feel overwhelmed with life itself I promise you life is not as difficult as our emotions lead us to believe. If you like we can go over the list together.

They say marry in haste, repent at leisure, All I can say dependent on age you need to consider your own needs. The same thing happened to me I was going to get married my Parents turned the screws. It has always seemed to me my Parents were marrying not me.

I do not know why your Parents feel the way they do, could it be your Mental Health Concerns are a big problem, and you are marrying for the wrong reasons and they feel you have not lived yet ?

All I can suggest is you know the circumstances and both your needs, No-one can really advise. It may be looking more at your Health would be a good idea, Depression can cause many uncertainties in our actions and fears and Anxiety may not help. Do you feel if you do not marry now you will not find anyone else

Welcome to this forum. I am glad you reached out here. I am sorry you are struggling again. Depression is an illness and can reoccur even if we think it is gone. My depression was situational, I would struggle every time we came back from a trip. We lived overseas and traveled 3 times a year. I didn't realize at the time, but coming back to the same circumstances affected me, and I had to learn what the underlying reason was through counseling. I also learned that each depressive episode gets worse. Eventually, I accepted being on medication for depression is similar to being on medication for diabetes. One keeps the insulin balanced, the other keeps the chemicals in our brain balanced. Since you have struggled with depression in the past, I do recommend you go see a psychiatrist and seek counseling, especially before this wedding. Does your fiance' know your struggles with depression. You will need support from your spouse to help get better. If you are having suicidal thoughts, get HELP immediately. Here are some resources that can be helpful. bit.ly/2xrHObw

You also might want to write down why your parents don't like your fiance'. Do you usually have a good relationship with your parents? Does their opinion matter to you? I would recommend considering postponing the wedding until your thoughts and mental health are feeling better. My prayers are with you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Much love and hugs!
