I’ve been laying in bed for about two hours this morning trying to convince myself to get up because I have a lot of important things to do today but...... I have 0 motivation to do any of it.
My thoughts keep telling me “what’s the point? You’re probably going to mess this up too.”
Any tips on getting motivated when your depressed/anxious?

Hi Bluekayak- i am sorry to hear about this. It can be hard to do anything when you’re depressed or anxious. I recently listened to an audio book called “Unf*ck Yourself”. In this book the author recommends repeating this mantra to yourself when you are feeling unmotivated: “I am not my thoughts, I am what I do”. When I’m feeling especially unmotivated I say this to myself and it helps me realize my actions don’t need to be controlled by my thoughts or emotions.
I also have issues getting out of bed in the morning due to lack of motivation. I bought an inexpensive alarm clock on one side of my room and I set that before going to bed, and I leave my phone in another room so I have to get up if I want to turn the alarm clock off and get my phone. Getting up is half the battle.
Sorry for the lengthy post. I hope some of this helps. If not, I hope you do find something that works for you
Hi Bluekayak. Some days are just so hard to want to do anything, especially if I have a lot to do and don't really enjoy any of the things I have to do. This is how I motivate myself. I pick the one thing I think is easiest to do, or least mind doing and tell myself" OK just get up and do that one thing. Then you can sit and have coffee or some other treat. " Once I get up and started, I usually find I can complete at least some of the other chores too.
