Hi everyone. A lot has gone on since joining 8 months ago. I had an allergic reaction to a med and suffered a psychotic episode. I ended up in patient and just traumatized by the psychotic episode. My mind was racing. I was manic and paranoid and had no idea what was going on. I was so scared. I'm doing better now I'm on new meds but developed intrusive thoughts from the experience. They are so annoying. I know I'd never act on them. I guess we all have them but I think I'm still sensitive. Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with them? I hope they go away.

I think you have got into a pattern of feeling unsettled by these thoughts. Have you concentrated on doing something really physical, like going for a swim ( if you can swim) running, walking or other form of exercise? It may sound trivial but good nutrition can help as well ie make sure you get the B vitamins and also magnesium. The simplest way to do this is to take a vitamin supplement and to eat bananas. They do quieten the mind and body especially if you drink warm milk as well in the evening.
I understand this is a very serious condition you have suffered and I am glad you are doing better now and i hope my advice is not too trivial. If there is any hobby you like then you could try and distract with this; be that needlework, colouring, word search; I don't know you so I am just guessing at activities and I'm sort of also assuming you are female. If you are male then maybe other things interest you such as fixing things or whatever it is that you find helps you distract, even watching a movie as long as it is one with a good moral message and not anything violent or horror as this will not help your mind regain some peace and relaxation.
I was sorry to see you didn't have any replies, so I have done my best to help even though this is not my specialism.
Wishing you all the best

Thanks so much. I read magnesium and vitamin B are both helpful. I'm going to ask my psychiatrist about them when I see her. I am practicing mindfulness to help distract my mind. The thoughts just seem to come out of nowhere. Hopefully my new meds and continuous therapy sessions will help. The thoughts just kept cycling and I would get in the bed and fall asleep. That was the only way i didn't have to deal with them. Now I'm learning to not fight them and let them pass.
