Hazel Eyes

Hazel eyes look up to heaven.

She whispers a broken plea.

She said, "Lord, if You can hear me,

bring my daddy home to me."

Hazel eyes light up like diamonds.

Daddy's coming home again.

Days and days of window gazin' -

just waiting on her best friend.

He'd climb the highest mountain.

He'd swim across the deepest sea

to wipe the tears from her hazel eyes

and put her troubled mind at ease.

Hazel eyes look up to heaven.

She whispers a broken plea.

She said, "Lord, if You can hear me,

bring my daddy home to me."

Her little heart starts beating wildly

as her daddy walks through the door.

And everything that used to matter

doesn't seem to matter anymore.

She can hear the music playing;

rock and roll on the radio.

Though it seems like yesterday,

he'd gone to heaven years ago.

Hazel eyes look up to heaven.

She whispers a broken plea.

She said, "Lord, if You can hear me,

bring my daddy home to me."

Hazel eyes only cry for a moment

because, like so many times before,

she hides behind her hazel eyes.

She doesn't want to feel anymore.

Hazel eyes light up like diamonds.

She can see her daddy in him.

Calloused hands and a simple plan;

to help her learn to love again.

Hazel eyes look up to heaven.

She whispers a broken plea.

She said, "Lord, let him love me

the way my daddy loved me."
