Blood pressure Spikes

Are blood pressure spikes common with anxiety. I keep taking my bp and getting high readings but every time I take the reading I am freaking out.

Breathe Anxiousdude because fear begets fear. And "yes" anxiety can cause b/p

spikes in most people including myself. But know that "anticipation" can also cause

the b/p to stay that way for awhile. It's best not to take our pressure when in a state

of anxiousness. There was a time that I would take my b/p multiple times a day, the

higher it went, the more I took it. That habit spirals us into chronic fear every time

we see the b/p monitor.

The better thing to do is to put the monitor aside and use some relaxing methods

to reduce fear and stress.

You will feel your body relax as you breathe and meditate. That alone is enough to

reduce the numbers without even having to take it.

Our body takes care of itself, if we would only allow it to do it's job. Breathe Anxiousdude.

It's going to be okay. :) x

Thank you. I actually threw the monitor away and I’m letting the doctor do it from now on. I am so amped up and on edge though now. I feel like rushing to the doctor but I’ll try and relaz

Good for you Anxiousdude in throwing that monitor away.

You deserve a "pat on the back" and a hug :) x

I support you, leave it to the professionals.

It makes it so much worse. Now I am dizzy and shaking. I should know better

Give it time please. When I first did that, I placed the monitor

in a plastic bag in the closet. Oh yes, I cheated a couple times

and got it out, but within a short time, I started feeling less anxious

so I knew I had made the right decision.

You will realize it too. You need some time to adjust to this habit.

Now I need to throw away my pulsometer. I take that when I feel like I can’t breathe.

I did too...

I like the way you described it as taking it more the higher it got. Of coarse it gets higher every time. I feel like I am afraid of the bp moniter

I hear you Anxiousdude... it's an anxious response from our

over sensitized nerves.

Well I hope it stops cuz I feel like hot garbage today.

Agora1 is so right, Anxiousdude. Every word she says is so good for your fear. Please listen to her!

Super weird question. I’m on a very low dose of lexapro and my face and neck feel hot or flushed. Super weird.

Have you talked to your Dr about the heat? Some people react that way to allergies. I know I do.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to NCAQuilter

No I’ve never noticed this. It actually just came out of the blue. I will when I see her in a week. I think it is an anxiety symptom from panicking for two days.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to NCAQuilter

Apparently other people have had this. Hopefully it goes away cuz it is super weird.

Stop taking your blood pressure ! You are anxious about it, that's why it's higher. Hope you can get to not worrying so much about it. Sending you hugs !!

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to trapis2

Yeah I threw it in the trash. I feel like crap but I think it’s a combo of coming off of panic attacks and this new medicine. I finally calmed down after two days and some cbd oil. I still feel super weird though

I'm so sorry you are feeling crappy and weird.... It will improve now that you aren't stressing about your BP. Some of those electronic ones are so inaccurate anyway. New meds can take awhile for your body can adjust to them, believe me I know and the worst thing is what they tell you to do, read all the side effects that could happen. To me that's a sure thing I will imagine I have some of them even if I don't.... Some times to much knowledge is not a good thing !! Hugs are being sent and you will be feeling so much better in time.... It's a five minute hug !

What’s your blood pressure. Mine is always high when I go to the doctors or when I’m home and check it.

Anxiousdude profile image

It’s only 130 over 75 now. When I was freaking out it went to 150 something.

anxiouslady13 profile image
anxiouslady13

How are you feeling now? Today my BP has been up to 144 over 98 then 132 over 113. I'm freaking out.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

I went to Dr the other day 120 over 75. I recommend leaving that stuff to the drs. Yours is probably shooting up from your anxiety. I threw away all my monitoring stuff.

anxiouslady13 profile image
anxiouslady13 in reply to Anxiousdude

I should probably do that too. I haven't been to the Drs in a little over a year, it might be time for that as well.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

I seriously can’t do that to myself anymore. Even at the drs my blood pressure was great but my hr was 93. Your mind causes your body to do crazy things. My normal resting heart rate is about 45 to 50. I highly recommend not taking your vitals.

anxiouslady13 profile image
anxiouslady13 in reply to Anxiousdude

My resting HR is 50-60. Today it was up to 98 but I have been super anxious all day. I'm wondering if my BP monitor is even working correctly.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

I don’t know but it was causing me all kinds of anxiety. Anxiety sucks though try to just let the feelings pass. I have actually had a good couple of weeks by doing that. It’s hard because I get so many random symptoms. My gp actually calmed me down at my last appointment and assured me that I’m fine and that she’s known all this stuff was anxiety for a while. I’ve had countless tests done. I’ve spent around ten thousand dollars in the past two years trying to prove that something was wrong. It’s time for me to start trusting the drs.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

Oh yes and I should mention that you have an awesome username.

anxiouslady13 profile image

Trusting Drs is not easy. Especially with anxiety. One year ago I had my heart fully checked out. I'm talking ultrasounds, blood test, monitors for 2 weeks and ekgs, but my mind still is convincing me that there is something wrong. Anxiety is the devil.

Lol your name is pretty awesome too.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

My heart stuff was so bad that I have a loop recorder in my chest constantly monitoring my heart rate. The Dr sees the info not me. You are not alone.

anxiouslady13 profile image
anxiouslady13 in reply to Anxiousdude

Its in there permanently?

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

No hopefully only another 4 months. He’s keeping it in there because I was having diziniss because of anxiety and he noticed I have bradycardia. Basically when I’m sleeping my heart rate is in the 40s. He’s making sure it isn’t doing that during the day. It doesn’t do that though because I’m moving around. I guess technically I do have a heart problem but not really. I have bradycardia but it doesn’t really effect me.

anxiouslady13 profile image
anxiouslady13

That is pretty low. Hopefully they get you all fixed up. I hate dizziness. It makes me panic but when I panic at least I'm not dizzy anymore lol. Go figure.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

I’m not worried about the low heart rate as I’ve had it my whole life. It’s weird my whole family has it. It’s common with athletes as well and I’ve always been super active. Yes I am over this junk. Even now I’m having heart burn after my food and my thoughts immediately go somewhere they shouldn’t. Have you had any symptoms like numbness? I actually think heart burn is one of mine lol.

anxiouslady13 profile image
anxiouslady13 in reply to Anxiousdude

I get reflux pretty bad no matter what I eat. I haven't had numbness to the point of being worried about it. And I hope it stays that way.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

How about muscle tension or pain? I only ask cuz I get all kinds of goodies lol.

anxiouslady13 profile image
anxiouslady13 in reply to Anxiousdude

I get muscle tension especially in my shoulders sometimes in my legs too. I get chest pains sometimes oh and back pains.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply to anxiouslady13

Tonight I was chasing my dog around the house and when I bent over it felt like electricity went through my lower back. That was seriously a weird one. The chest pains stuff is scary too.
