Xanax is definitely a strong medication for anxiety. You’ll probably start at the lowest dose .25 and absolutely take it at home and don’t drive. It really relaxes the anxiety and body. It’s not so much for depression but if you’re relaxed from the Xanax, the depression probably won’t be active at that time. Definitely talk to your doctor about it. I know they are getting more strict about prescribing Xanax because it can be addicting.

You might want to get a second opinion. If you’ve never taken Xanax, even just one a day .25 is going to knock you out at first. That’s a lot to take in one day and one milligram! You’ll need a bib from the drooling!! Let’s PM because I want to see how you’re doing with the other thing.

That’s a lot to start with! I started at .25 mg 2x daily and it relaxed me a lot. That’s only .5mg daily. You’ll be taking 3mg. Be careful please!

i have serve anxiety and get panic/anxiety attacks daily, they started me on 1 mg 3x daily. if you suffer from severe anxiety, i can guarantee you it will most likely not knock you out and you feel tremendous relief. .25 did not touch my anxiety. i eventually switched to klonopin and i truly believe it saved my life. i’ve never felt not myself while on it, and my insomnia went away while i would take it! i never felt the urge to just pass out, i would sleep normally when i was ready. i think 1 mg 3x daily is definitely reasonable if you suffer terribly. just my experience, everyone is different:) i feel like once you have debilitating anxiety anti-anxiety meds just don’t hit you as hard as it would with someone with not as severe anxiety.

Take the lowest dose that works and take it for the least amount of time. Horrible withdrawals, memory loss and much more. Besides the withdrawals that you would expect, there's Protracted Withdrawals that can continue for many years and are Total Hell, you cant even imagine! The rebound anxiety you can have is worse than the anxiety you had before you ever started taking it. When I was put on it in the late 90's they didn't know or tell you the things they do now. I'm still not the same and never will be. If I would have known back then what I do now I never would have taken them. Get more than one doctors opinion and BE CAREFUL!!!

Have you managed to stop taking the benzo med? My story is a lot like yours and I have been unable to stop taking the med.

don’t do it, xanax can become highly addictive and when mixed with other substances can be deadly. My mother was highly addicted and ended up accidentally overdosing after she started to mix it with other things after becoming addicted. Your tolerance will build and you will eventually need higher doses frequently. I would recommend you find a different anti-anxiety drug, one that doesn’t have the potential to be this deadly. There are a lot of bad side effects when misused which you could accidentally do if you build a tolerance. I wouldn’t suggest any drugs in the benzo class.
