Hi I've been dealing with anxiety and depression for the majority of my life I've been dealing with it okay until a recent stay at a behavioral hospital. They told me and instead of dealing with anxiety and depression that I have bipolar disorder and I need to focus on that rather than my anxiety and depression.

Now that I'm at home I'm more depressed than ever having a hard time coping with anxiety trying not to seclude myself but

I do not have any friends in my entire family is gone besides my 85 year old father I have two boys that are grown and don't talk to me so while I'm alone at my house it is very hard not to seclude myself as I only have a dog. I can go out walking but that's not helping me as far as interacting with people

Welcome to the group. Sorry you're having a hard time. I have learned many coping skills for dealing with my anxiety and depression. I have read numerous books on the brain and on anxiety. One thing that has been very helpful for me was learning that emotions follow actions and thoughts and that emotions can't be trusted. I read a book called Rethink How You Think by Dr. David Stoop. I realized that when I was having a panic attack or anxiety, I could trace it back to my thoughts. I try to keep my mind focused and occupied by reading self help books, listening to Christian radio or to New Life radio call in program. Steve Arterburn and the other counselors on New Life answer questions and give advice to callers. I have learned so much from them. And they suggest resources to the callers.

Breathing exercises and exercise in general is also good, as well as eating right. I avoid caffeine, processed foods, white flour and pasta and limit my sugar intake.

It has taken me several years to learn all these things, but I know that I am in a better place than I was 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

So sorry you are feeling this....I know how hard the loneliness can be... Do you see a therapist? Learning coping strategies for the anxiety can be really helpful. And have you tried looking for a group to meet with? A therapist might be able to recommend some support groups, or even a website like meetup.com can have fun ways to interact with people socially depending on your interests. Sending positive vibes your way....
