I don’t have experience with those medicines. I used to get panic attacks. I eventually became agoraphobic for fourteen years. I was able to overcome them through reading self help books. You might want to try cognitive behavioral therapy.

I have what you have too! It’s awful, keep fighting! I choose not to take meds...

I’ve taken a few different medications for panic disorder as I have had it since I was a kid. I’m 36 now and still battle with it. The medications can be life savers but it’s a rough start usually. Just about any antidepressant will have start up side effects that can make your anxiety worse but they are temporary and will subside anywhere from 2-4 weeks. I know that sounds scary and long but they get less intense over the 2-4 week period and once you make it past that, it’s possible to have a significant improvement in your current anxiety. Not every antidepressant works the same or as well for everyone so it’s possible this one won’t be the one for you or it may be perfect. You just have to be patient and let it build up in your system to see how it works. Anything you can do to keep yourself distracted during the start up is a plus. I try to pretend my anxious feelings are energy and do a whole house cleaning or find something to binge watch on tv. Just remind yourself that, just like a headache, the anxiety and panic is absolutely uncomfortable but not dangerous. Exercising, even just something like jumping jacks in your bedroom until you can’t do anymore, helps me during a full blown panic attack. Therapy is helpful but first you have to be able to be well enough to get there so try the meds and then see about self help books and therapy. I really hope these work out for you cause this is a tough thing to live with.

Hi! So, I was diagnosed with severe anxiety and was prescribed Lexapro, so I have no experience with the medicine you're given. BUT, it will be a trial and error journey. Some medicines will work, others will not. You also have to be very patient when waiting to see results. It took probably 2-3 weeks for it to properly kick in for me. It was tough, but I really think it helped me reset my body, mind soul and life. I am not on it now, but you will discover what is right/wrong for your body. I am praying for you! I know how difficult and scary this journey can be!

Have you tried any kind of outlet for you anxiety? Going running... going to therapy.... meditation? I would give other things a try and as a last resort go to medication.

Just my opinion though! I hope you feel better soon!
