Im in the same situation.. been lost for so long.

I started feeling depressed when I was a adolescent.. I know it was God who lifted me out of depression, knowing that God loved me, and He promised to never leave or forsake me.. I lost my dad when I was 11, and got saved when I was 12. God was there for me at times I didn’t realize it, but when I got older I knew it was Him that had kept me from death. To me God is the only answer for happiness. He put His peace, love and hope back in me, and I gradually started getting better. It was like a baby learning to walk at first. But I got stronger with each encouraging word from God’s word. The more I look to God and learn to trust Him. I still have moments, but not that dark pit I felt I was in.. because God spoke to me, and said, “ I will lift you up!”

I knew from then on He would help me back up when/if I started feeling down again. I can now laugh and smile again! 🤗💖

I think getting over being depressed might be gradual. You could find yourself being able to smile at someone, or be interested in a conversation or laugh. You might have more focus and concentration. You can get up and do things around the house. Things will just continue to get better until you find things you love to do again that makes you happy.

I have several points on this topic. First I think as we grow older what makes us happy changes. When we are little it’s toys, candy, and sports. Then as we get in our teens it’s being with friends and expanding our social circles. Then young adulthood it’s career and starting a family. Then middle age it’s enjoying our family. Then in old age if we are blessed to be able to enjoy the fruits of our retirement and grandchildren. I think when we move on to the new things that make us happy it can cause us to become depressed. Depressed from the new stresses those things bring and sadness that we will miss those old ways. Second happiness is fleeting. Going from one thing to another chasing a happiness high is exhausting. We live within the confines of time. As such happiness only lasts for a short time. The best we can have is contentment. To be content is to be at peace.

It is best to start with the little things in life. Be thankful for where you are living. Be thankful for clothes to wear. Be thankful for the senses that you have that you can use every day. Being happy is temporary but being thankful is a gift we can give ourselves all the time.
