Phone therapy??
I am not familiar with this...but since there is so much body language to be read in a session I am interested how that aspect of phone therapy will work out...please post your experience and how it worked out for you. Many who can't make it to a therapist may be able to benefit....
I will do, I was offered a face to face appointment in October, but she thought this would be better as it was quicker.
They are now starting telesessions where the therapist chats with you face to face. Don’t know where you live, but I’d call your insurance company to see if this might be an option for you.
Let us know how it goes, ok?
Yeah, this ought to be good!
HI RDC81, I do phone therapy but it's with my own therapist. I've always been a little leery regarding website doctors/therapists since we don't really know who we are talking with. However, in your case if your doctor gave you the recommendation, I would hope that he gave you a credible site. Good Luck and maybe some one else on this forum will
be able to assure you that they did find a good therapist on line. :)xx
It is an IAPT Wiltshire website it's got NHS on it and the centre I phoned is in Devizes near to me which I've heard of I'm presuming they know what they're doing 🤞
Hi,
I recently referred myself to my local Talking Therapies service.
I think the main purpose of the initial session is to assess your needs to see which team and what sort of therapy is best suited to help you, or if you need to be referred elsewhere.
I opted for a phone session too to get things moving as quickly as possible.
I am absolutely terrified of the medical profession and was very apprehensive of what would happen in the telephone assessment. I prepared some notes as I do for any medical appointment as my mind normally goes blank as soon as I’m asked a question, but found I didn’t need them.
It felt much more like a chat than a question and answer session and I found it surprisingly easy to be open and honest about my feelings, thoughts and actions.
By far the hardest things were making the initial self-referral, which you have already done and waiting for the call.
I’m sure it will go well for you.
Thank you so much for this, very helpful and I will take your advice on the note making as I know I'll forget to say something xx
Good luck for today, you'll be fine.
Thank you so much for your message, I will let you know how it goes xx
Just got off the phone with the doctor feeling like I completely wasted her time. I told her I have always been a worrier, hated myself and easily get angry and am unable to make decisions she put it down to my current situation and told me to get back in touch if I wanted CBT or pay for counselling. Not sure what to do now, still feel as lost as ever.
While it might not be what you were expecting, if they are offering CBT maybe you should consider accepting. Lots of people find it helps them.
Take care
