The best therapy for my OCD was Exposure Therapy (Whatever your fears facing your fears & exposing yourself to your fears is what has helped me the most. Also, taking some meds (SRI's) which I don't recommend unless your Anxiety & OCD is severe (mine was)! I still have my OCD fears, but, the Exposure T. helped A lot. It is now easier to manage. Reading books on anxiety, CBT as you mentioned, groups for anxiety & OCD (still going to), meditation, etc. I don't know about DBT --I, also, suffer from GAD, and am in a setback since my Sig. Other passed away last Nov. Also, the Pandemic, and all the viruses out there made my Health Anxiety (OCD) worse, and am working on that with Exposure T., and group, therapy. It's takes time, and is a process. You can try one method, and if that doesn't suit you, try another. It's a struggle.
I am not sure what would work for Trauma --probably some kind of talk therapy with a therapist. Good luck.
Hi, Thank you for post and reaching out for help. 👍 CBT is the most common type of therapy for most conditions. Trauma requires a therapist qualified to treat it.
When asking for a referral or in speaking with a therapist for the first time, check you have the right person. A few therapist's may offer to treat one condition and refer you to someone else for the other. My personal preference is to avoid this but if it means getting therapy sooner rather than later, the idea may be worth considering.
Hoping you find the therapy works 🐈⬛
You might check out the youtube videos and websites of Paige Pradko and also Matthew Codde at Restored Minds for dealing with and healing OCD. They both are therapists who healed themselves and now help others and they have really good, practical advice.
As far as trauma, they may also have helpful info and I personally have found EMDR therapy to be very helpful for my trauma/c-ptsd. i worked with a therapist that specialized in treating trauma/c-ptsd and used it as part of my therapy.
I’ve heard good things about EMDR therapy and also brain spotting which is better than EMDR . Thanks !
I have a question for you ! I have appointment next month with a EMDR therapist and we are doing the session over video which I find is very weird. Is this the proper way of doing EMDR ?? Or it doesn’t matter if it’s in person or not
Thanks so much Designguy 🙏
I haven't done emdr virtually although I have read that it is just as effective as doing it in person as long as you both have good video connections. If you are doing emdr for trauma, you might try to find a therapist that specializes in treating trauma that uses emdr as part of the therapy process. I tried initially doing emdr with a general emdr therapist and it wasn't helpful but we do all react differently but that was my experience.
I'm honestly not sure. I did alot of DBT for my anxiety and depression. My therapist thought about changing it but they have some similarities I believe so we stuck with the DBT.
I have done DBT, (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), for 2.5 years and have found it very helpful. I think it has many similarities to CBT, (Cognitive Behavior Therapy), but was founded by Marsha Linehan in Seattle, WA. "Being mindful" is very important to its core theories.
I am looking into using CBT with Exposure Therapy to tackle an OCD issue as I hear CBT has a good success rate with OCD. So, I think both therapies are good, just a little bit different. You tube videos can tell you more about both psychotherapies than I can.
