Hi nice to meet you. I am a a bit confused because the professions you mention are nothing to do with depression.

Do you mean a doctor or counsellor? If so then no there aren't any here as this is just a peer group for fellow sufferers. Even if there were you couldn't be diagnosed over the net.

The advice I always give anyone suffering from any mental health issue is first to see a doctor and get some medical help. Have you done this yet? Do you feel able to tell us a bit more about yourself please so we can help better? x

thank you for reply , I am going to the Doctor but I need some help from developers because some of them fall in depression and I want to ask them how they beat it

We are all different and just because someone has the same career as you does not mean for a moment that their advice is any more valid than anyone else's. It doesn't make any sense to me why anyone would think that!

If it is your career which is making you so depressed then the best thing to do would be to think about changing it. x

as i said: i was a developer for 19 years...i worked in IT company with developers, and i did not know about some specific depression which developers suffer. what is your story and why you connect software development with depression?

The reason of our depressed is if we didn't learn programming as fast as possible we will end the college without job then we will not have money to live then we will not married. It's every day thinking

o, you will be fine i think. because it is very demanding field, they need developers more and more, not less. You can not learn everything ...you need experience and you will be learning gradually all your life if you do development. You know who is the best friend of developers? Google. we google that and google this, and try what we googled, and this is how we learn every single day. I don't believe that young people in college would not get a job. You will, may be not big money at the beginning, but they pay a lot for a good developer. Just take one day at at time and keep studying. This profession requires not to get frustrated easily though. Because it is always not known...and something you have to fight for. I used to say:"i am fighting with my code". If you take a piece of code and put it in, it does not mean it would work...you might spend hours for debugging and making it work. So you need to have or develop those qualities: persistence and not giving up...

and love for learning, and curiosity. But it rewarding and always in demand profession. I envy you that you are at the beginning of this road, it is a wild ride but it is fun.

good! it is a process...don't get discouraged and don't doubt yourself. I used to feel this way as well: o, i can not do it, i am stuck. But don't be afraid to ask for help, and know one thing: we all get stuck, this is kind of work when you get stuck and then you get unstuck. it is not you who is not capable, it is the task, it takes a lot ...but it gives a lot too!

well, why? what are thoughts when you feel depressed? is it because of job? is it too hard? or you feel too isolated? too many hours? Yes, it is very hard and it is many hours, and sometimes you dream about coding when you sleep, and some solutions come to your mind when you sleep:), and you have to keep learning all the time(because it is changes very quickly), but it does not mean you have to feel depressed. I know people who had to leave because it was too much...i also left after 19 years, but because culture of company has changed, and i felt very stressed, did not have peers, did not have a good manager, and i could not anymore carry on like that. But i was not depressed for those 19 years, i was anxious sometimes, but not depressed. You have to analyze your and your coworkers reasons to feel depressed, see if you have those thoughts in common. and we can discuss then how to make it better, or ...also possible ...not to be a developer. Of course talk to your doctor about that. But it must be more to the story that : we are developers and we are depressed. Good luck, and i am here if you want to talk.

I was for 19 years till february of 2018. I did not solve it, but not my occupation was a reason. I was anxious before that and some stressful times brought me very bad anxiety. But there were very happy moments, real victory when you have a difficult task and you are looking for a solution...for hours, sometimes-days, and finally you found it. It was such a great feeling, i miss it now.
