DOes anyone know the best way to be evaluated for a diagnosis ? I feel like my psychiatrist doesn’t know anything about me. She’s only spent maybe an hour and a half tops with me over this 7 month span. She diagnosed me as having major depression and generalized anxiety disorder . Then she thought I was bipolar just because I told her it. runs in my family. Then I told her I believed I had ADD and although I really do believe this , I felt she was quick to be like okay....

What do you think about your diagnosis ? Do you have access to a therapist? They can be a good sounding board since they can find a list of symptoms to narrow a diagnosis.
My friend, I would change doctor. They may have the best intention but you may not necessarily feel comfortable with her.
Are you in a community based clinic and can you ask to switch doctors? I also agree with Lkerwin, a therapist can help. I get more help from mine than I do my doctor
Sunflower, Depending on the facility, an intake evaluation (may have different name) is done, prior to seeing a therapist. Usually, a general idea of the problem(s) is developed from the intake assessment. It may involve a series of questions, oral and written tests, observation, and more depending on the facility. However, an initial evaluation may change with time, and getting to know the person better, If you feel you are not 'clicking' with your current therapist, it is okay to ask for a different one. But its also good to keep in mind that sometimes when therapy goes into areas we may find difficult, we may start to find fault with the therapist. In those cases it is probably best to stick it out where you are.
Best Wishes!!
