Need motivation

I’m not happy where I’m at in life right now. I’m 20 years old and I just can’t seem to do healthy things for myself. I just recently swallowed my pride and signed up for therapy, but finding motivation to do things like clean my room or practice better hygiene seem impossible. I started an antidepressant a few weeks ago. I’m tired of feeling like this at such a young age.

Howdy there! I can totally understand where you're coming from. Sometimes, it takes such a gargantuan effort to fight depression, it leaves us mentally exhausted. If I may suggest something, make a daily list of what you would like to accomplish. Doesn't have to be anything huge, just some simple, easy tasks. Make sure to have a small reward to give yourself once you completed a task. Things like that can make doing even tiny things much more meaningful. You're not alone in this fight! If you ever need to talk or to vent, we're all here for you :)

A friend,

Brian :)

Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to respond to my post. I feel like such a useless 20 year old sometimes! I will definitely take your advice into consideration, you’re a beautiful person. ❤️

And so are you! You need to remember that you're a special, wonderful person that deserves happiness! The depression is just like the old boogeyman adults warned you about when you were a kid. It only scares you if you let it. And you're not useless! Hey, you've come here looking for advice! That means a lot! Stay positive and if you need a friendly ear to bend, I'm here to listen :)

Your friend,

Brian :)

Bridder is totally right. Start small. Really small. It takes time, but you'll get there. Don't worry if you fail. Just try again tomorrow. Every morning you wake with a clean slate.

Hi. I am 41 and just started seeking professional help for depression about 2 years ago. But I had been fighting depression on my own since my early teens. I think it's great you are getting help at such an early age.
