My anxiety and depression has taken over my life for so long. I do want to fix myself, and I always tell myself that I'll get better, but I haven't done anything to do that. Part of that is because my insurance is under my parents and they don't understand mental illnesses. My mom once said "If someone wants to kill themselves, then let them do it. They're just gonna chicken out because they want attention." So I need help with receiving help because asking to talk to a doctor or any other professional would not go through with my parents in the way.

Please fix me.
Unless you are under a certain age...you can seek out counselling yourself from various sources. There are counselling centers in most city's that work on a sliding scale. I paid very little for a session with a therapist that was getting their hours in for their own practice. NAMI may be able to help you, and there are many on-line websites offering help. We are not professionals...just members like yourself that can share our experiences and offer our opinions....but that's all it is really....we can't fix anyone. I'm glad your sharing here, and hope you can find some other therapy resources also.
Hi Fix_me,
Are you enrolled in school?
Belong to a religious organization?
Have a job?
If you're in school try to go to the counseling center or nurses station there and ask for help. Explain why you haven't talk to your parents about your feelings and thoughts. This is usually confidential UNLESS you express thoughts of suicide and/or homicide.
Now please understand I am not promoting religion but if you are affiliated with a religious organization, you can confidentially seek help there too as well and I believe at no cost to you or your parents.
If you are employed try to make enquiries about getting a secondary insurance but just know your parents will eventually find out from their insurance company but at least they aren't paying for you to receive the help you need. You can alternatively pay for sessions with a therapist out-of-pocket if you have a job, as well.
Search out community health centers and youth crisis organizations, they often help in situations like these. But if you ever feel like you're in danger of hurting yourself or others PLEASE call your suicide prevention hotline. Get their number on speed dial.
I hope this helps my dear one, you will get over this, you will be okay. Just keep believing and expecting it to get better and try to get professional help as soon as you can.
Many, many hugs to you....
