Social Anxiety

I don't feel like attending classes anymore. I'm halfway through my final year and so far I haven't gone to half the classes. Whenever I do go, my anxiety acts up as soon as I see the disapproving look on my teachers' faces. As a result I skip even more classes. Nobody even knows that this is the reason I skip class. Everybody thinks that I'm just being lazy but I'm not. I wish I had the courage to tell my friends atleast.

There is no easy way on this pathway you have chosen. You need to understand why you are feeling the way you do. If you are in your Final Year, it seems sad that you have worked hard to get where you are now.

If at all possible go and see the College/University GP or Social Team. If you feel better talking to your family Doctor you could to possibly arrange a day to see him

Medications and finals can lead to problems with concentration so you need to discuss your problems and learn some coping techniques.

Breathing Technique may help including Mindfulness. Personally you need support and only you has the tools

BOB

Remember that you’re going for you, not the teachers. It would be sad not to finish when you’re so close! Bob’s advice is good and I agree with him. I hope you can find some peace of mind!

You may just need a break from school to get your anxiety sorted out....and it's better if you talk to your instructors and administration and get a deferment and released no fault due to illness, from classes so you don't get stuck with any bad grades on record. If you’re not already in therapy it may be a good idea to check into it and find someone who can help you with coping skills to manage this. You don't want to compound how your feeling with also feeling like a failure...you don't have to .....just talk to whoever you need to....and give yourself a breather to get better.

I can totally relate to this. I’ve done this for a couple of years in different phases of school. It’s hard to get out of that, once the anxiety settles in your head it’s easy to think and anticipate what’s going to happen and then just talk yourself into not going. We want to do better but it isn’t always that easy. Communication is important though, people can’t help you if they don’t know what’s going on. Even if it’s just one friend.
