When getting sick

Quick question: it seems that when I get sick I always feel more depressed. I'm talking mostly a virus or bug type thing. I get worried that I'm headed to a bad place. Do "normal folk"feel depressed when they're sick? Normal meaning they do not have a prob with depression. I'm just getting over something and yesterday I was in and out of bed all day with headache & chills. I'm glad my mental/emotional state seems better today also. Just a silly wondering question.

I don't know if this helps you but I always feel more depressed right before I get sick. I think since we have a problem with depression our bodies are working harder to fight off the illness that it can't also keep our brains balanced so the depression kicks in. Also think about when you are really tired (not because you are sick, just in general) your depression can get worse then to. Well, when you are getting sick you tend to be more tired just before you actually show the symptoms. That could also contribute to the depression kicking in. I'm not a doctor, that is just my theory after dealing with depression and anxiety for so many years.

You may be right. Makes sense. I just hate the feeling cause then I start second guessing myself if I'm really sick or not. Ill keep what you said in mind.

Just noticed this post.

Any physical illness, flu, sore throat , etc etc...makes me struggle more with my anxiety and depression...

Thanks for replying. Guess its normal for us at least. Didn't have a lot of response but at least I'm not alone in noticing it.

Olivia, you are right on target. Anxiety/Depression are always our number one worry and struggle. To add another issue to the pot, has always put me over the top. Once again the over sensitized nervous system goes into full play.

Yes, I avoid anyone who has a flu bug now as I know if I catch it, it will set me back 😔 I get flu jab too, at pharmacy it’s worth £10.00 😊 to try to keep flu at bay 🌺🌼

Lyn I feel the same when sick. I usually attribute it to being stuck at home resting and having too much time to think, but maybe there’s more to it. You’re not alone!
