What did your ask you doctor about your anxiety?

Hi everyone,

I am anxious and trying to prepare for my appointment I set up with my doctor to discuss anxiety and meditation etc. All of my life I have had some growing social anxiety and for the past 8-9 months I have had some general anxiety that has started to affect my everyday living (as far as life events that have had an effect on this I started a master’s program and have been wanting to quit my job to get one more involved in my field). I want to talk with my doctor to see if there’s something wrong with me basically - despite general life stressors I don’t feel normal. For those of you who have had this type of appointment - what was it like and what questions did you find helpful to ask your doctor about? Thank you in advance for any insight!!

I would let your doctor do most of the asking. Tell him your symptoms. You can ask his opinion on other ways to deal with anxiety. I hope you get some help and some answers.

That’s true, I have been noting my symptoms and may bring some notes with me so my mind doesn’t go blank! Thank you much for responding and helping me out!!

Write down your symptom, what and how you feel mostly, your last physical by your general doctor, when this all began and how you sleep. If there is a family history that you know of.

Perfect, I have been making notes on that stuff, thanks so much!!

I honestly have not made an appointment but I am in the same spot you are in as I am trying to finish my associates and I trying to figure what schools will accept me for my bachelors and masters degree programs. I am having a tough time and my anxiety is like taking over me and I have no idea what to do all I know is try to follow your heart on what to say your heart always knows what is right. I am not much help sorry.

Don’t be sorry! I’ve just started voicing my concerns about anxiety so it’s really great to connect with others feeling the same way. I always tell my boyfriend he would never want to live inside my head and I started to realize that the way I overthought about everything I do was unhealthy. I’ve studied mental health and it’s only now that I realize the interference my anxiety is having over my daily life that’s why I decided to make the appt because if there is something going on and there is a solution then I’m all for it! I finally needed answers, my appointment is tomorrow so hopefully it works out for me and for you too as welll

I haven't made an appointment yet, I want to. I am also studying mental health. I noticed how bad my anxiety was last semester when I was in a class called group dynamics and I had to talk in front of everyone everyday in class some days it was good for my "good days" but when I was having a "Bad day" i would be shaking, not wanting to speak at all not even to my friends, sweating badly and not because the room was warm which the room was actually cold so the sweating mad no sense. I will make an appointment before my next semester starts as I know I am going to have to as what happens if it gets worse? Best luck to you! you can chat with me if needed as its nice to have someone going through the same thing almost.

I agree it’s great to have someone to talk to I can keep you updated on how my appointment goes (I am of course anxious about what that is going to be like) but I can relate to those good and bad days, seems like we’re on the same page about our feelings!

A big belief of mine is that you don’t even have to be mentally ill to talk about your feelings with someone - keep your conversation going and try to find some solutions that will work to ease your anxiety. Getting my bachelors was a happy time in my life - you will get into a school and I hope you enjoy your studies as welll!!

I’m in a Mental Health Counseling program which will lead me to be able to become a Lincensed Mental Health Counselor- I’ve studied psychology and social work but found counseling to be the best fit for me for now! How about you?

right now I am just studying the beginning stages. I graduate next year with my associates in Human Services. I am working my way up.
