Xanax is great but...

I take a half a Xanax when I have particular bad attacks, but in the past week I had to do this 3 times (so 1 and a half pills), and I am worried about addiction to this. I know Benzodiazepines are highly addictive, and doctors don't prescribe long term, and some have horrible seizures when they stop taking them. I don't want to get addicted, but these seem to be the main thing that helps when I am feeling particularly panicked.

yeah....it is a tough call....but if your worried....maybe your doctor or therapist has another suggestion for a med that isn't addictive. I know for most with anxiety attacks that are just so severe....they have to stop them quickly...and benzo's just seem's to be the med most take. Hopefully some day we'll be able to just have some natural tea or juice drink that does the same thing does not screw with our body chemistry.

I try to drink Chamomile tea and stress teas as an alternative. It’s not even remotely the same, but it’s better than nothing! (Or popping Xanax all the time).

Hello, there is nothing natural will that will work exactly/instantly like xanax. But try to find coping skills that you will be comfortable with to minimize your anxiety, use slow breathing exercise/meditation daily. Self positive talk daily, use any type of mindfulness to distract your mind. Acceptance with our anxiety and it is just sensations that our subconscious is making it to our body and it will go away. Most important find an exercise you can do daily. Slowly you will get better. It will not be easy but we have to this to get better. Try to taper from xanax to where you use as needed only for now then later completely. Good luck to you.

Hi there. I had the same experience with Xanax. The effects only last about 20-30 minutes. I told my doctor and she put me on a med called buspar. It works just on my anxiety without all the downer effects. I take it routinely and I swear it saved me. Good luck. Hope this helps.
