Hi: anyone ever use l theanine for sleep? I have been taking 100 mg at night before bed and it really does seem to take the edge off. It appears safe yet I am unsure. Thoughts? Thanks.

L theanine for sleep
very interesting, sounds good...might give it a try myself...thanks
General uses
L-theanine may help relieve stress by inducing a relaxing effect without drowsiness and may also possess immunologic attributes. Theanine may also have effects on the cardiovascular system and play a preventative role in cancer; however, limited clinical information is available to support these claims.
Theanine, also known as L-γ-glutamylethylamide and N5-ethyl-L-glutamine, is an amino acid analogue of the proteinogenic amino acids L-glutamate and L-glutamine and is found primarily in particular plant and fungal species. It was discovered as a constituent of green tea in 1949 and in 1950 was isolated from gyokuro leaves. Theanine provides a unique brothy or savory flavor to green tea infusions.
Side Effects
Few adverse reactions have been reported. Adverse reactions recorded in human studies using tea extracts include headache, dizziness, and GI symptoms.
I've been taking 400 mg of L-theanine each morning to help with anxiety without any side effects. I am not sure if it helped. I did some Internet research on supplements for anxiety and the sources I read seemed to think L-theanine was safe - but then, its the Internet and you can't always believe what your read online. I think I might start taking it at night. I could use the help with sleep. Hope it proves useful for you.
