5-HTP + L-TYROSINE for Depression?

Hey guys,

I want to know if anyone has experience supplementing with 5-HTP and L-Tyrosine together.

I've learned that since 5htp decreases other catecholamines (dopamine, noradrenaline, and adrenaline) we should also be increasing them. But how to maintain proper balance and know the side effects for each?

I want to choose supplementation because it doesn't make us dependant like antidepressants, so it's based on our needs. You don't have to taper off a supplement gradually.

Hi xavier65

I tried 5-HTP

I think it does help if you take the right dosage.

I only stopped taking it because I usually forget to take them. I’m sure if I would of continued they would of made a difference.

Please note that for some people it can take weeks for it to take effect.

You can look online for a product that has both things so it can be balanced.

I used it for mainly Anxiety. But it did give me a mood lift.

Hope my info helps.

5htp acts instantly because it crosses the blood brain barrier, it will only make you feel better if you are low on serotonin

Thank you for your comment bro. As lillyofthevalley37 said, it makes us better when we're low on serotonin.Did you have sugar cravings, blood sugar imbalance, adrenal fatigue or something before? Could you tell me about your symptoms before and after taking it? How 5htp changed things for you?

I would be very careful with 5htp you are better off with GABA which calms everything down but is very safe you can only buy GABA online in UK same with US I think yet you can buy 5htp from shops on UK high St.

Tyrosine should only be taken in the morning if you are low on dopamine this will give you a boost and will also give you a nice tan as tyrosine creates melanin in our body

What does Gaba do for you?

I stopped taking GABA it made my limbs feel tingling that led to a panic attack for me. Maybe it was all in my head but I’m not too sure. I’m scared to try it again.

I also think you’re only suppose to take it for 90 days.

Again I’m not too sure.

GABA does give you tingles like that but it's nothing to worry about

GABA is calming - calming for the brain and also for the immune system

Have you tried GABA yourself? There isn't much info in the internet about side effect caused by it.

Speaking of dopamine, I can't understand why would I have low dopamine? I was never addicted, and I'm not even in love. But if that's the main culprit anyway, I should be getting some tyrosine as well.

GABA is really safe , I have been taking GABA for long covid , covid is excititory and GABA calms everything down I had a 500mg capsule every night for about a week I have reduced it to about half that now, you can feel a bit flat on a morning but nothing that a good cup of coffee wouldnt sort out - coffee is a great source of dopamine

Why take tyrosine if you don't need it ? Do you drink real coffee for breakfast - because that's a good dopamine boost

Coffee would kill me. I'm very sensitive to Caffeine.

Coffee is terrible for people. It’ll create your problem because you get the crash hence withdrawal symptoms. Also caffeine reduces blood flow to the brain by up to 40%

Coffee isn’t bad for you in proper amounts. It has loads of antioxidants. It is a psychoactive. Micheal pollan wrote a book and has done interviews on the subject. I have been an amateur scholar since the 90s. If you are getting headaches and withdrawals after 1 cup I would look at the type of coffee, how much you are drinking and your brewing process. Downing multiple cups as quickly as possible is not how coffee should be consumed ever.

Having antioxidants is not the be all end all. Wine has antioxidants but the alcohol destroys your body. I can drink half a cup of coffee slowly and still be terrible. And I’ve seen many research as well showing coffee to be bad for us. It can cause miscarriages for women, that’s a good indication and warning. A pregnant woman should be having the most pure diet as possible which shows how our body should technically be fed.

As I stated previously it reduces blood flow to the brain significantly, sure it raises dopamine but causes many other issues there’s other ways to do this also, not a quick fix. Anything that can make you addicted easily is not a good thing.

Provide your sources for miscarriage and all the other life threatening issues. This is way over your head: Coffee is way more than that a drink. It represents culture and the way the entire world trade system grew.

Let’s take ☝️ of your claims. First of all it is 27% and secondly it isn’t necessarily bad or good like most things in life. Migraines are often preceded by *enlarged* blood vessels so constricting blood cells is good. In fact webmd says it can boost headache medicine. You are throwing out misinformation and you don’t even know what it means.

“Pregnant women should be” You are in *no position* to give advice to pregnant women. That is for her doctor and her.

Wine *is* good for you in moderation. Can’t be moderate? No shame in using ostaining. Same with coffee. Don’t like? Doesn’t agree? Can’t stick to one or two cups? Drink something else.

But STOP giving people unsubstantiated misinformation and lies.

I know you are lost but anyone else might find this useful. Plus polans research.

Whatever man. Keep your addiction. Yes there’s multiple sources and you’ve clearly seen them and 27% is the AVERAGE, some up to 40%, but you deny it at the same time. Cocaine and other natural drugs also have cultural and trade systems as well. Same for alcohol and many other terrible things. But people glorify it when addicted and find any positive thing to claim it’s good. Many people have bad symptoms and some ignore them because they need that “cultural” feel or some other attachment. I’m simply trying to give the truth. MANY OTHER NATURAL METHODS AND WAYS TO TREAT THE PROBLEM. Without the issues notes. AND IT IS KNOWN TO CAUSE ISSUES TO THOSE WHO ARE ANXIOUS EVEN IN SMALL AMOUNTS!! Why even risk it or continue?! Lack of sleep is also probably a major issue, good sleep hygiene isn’t always easy but a must. As well as Vitamin D levels, etc etc.

5-HTP CURED MY ANZIETYI was having horrible Morning Dread/Anxiety.

I kept searching and trying different remedies.

NOTHING WORKED

Then I came across a blog where people were saying that 5-HTP cured their anxiety and depression better than Prozac.

So I went to CVS and bought the best 5-HTP product they had.

Irwin Naturals Double Potency 5-HTP Extra for $22.

This product contains several other stress reducing ingredients.

You can get 5-HTP (by itself) for about half the price.

After about 2 hours, I felt a calming feeling.

(I was a little light headed so I don't recommend driving the first time you take it)

I woke up the next morning with no stiffness or worrysome thoughts at all!

I did still have some nervous jitters but I would say that I improved about 90%.

I was in really bad shape and desperate to find a remedy that worked.

THANK GOD I FOUND THIS!

I believe that my stress depleted my Serotonin.

That's why Luxapro (an SSRI) wasn't helping at all.

My low Serotonin levels caused anxiety and negative thinking.

The anxiety depleted more Serotonin and I kept getting worse every day until I hit rock bottom.

5-HTP helps your body to produce Serotonin.

I also took some Nature Made 3,000 mcg Sublingual Vitamin B-12 but I don't know if it helped or not.

I'll have to experiment to see if it actually helped.

These didn't work at all for me:

CBD Oil

Lexapro (SSRI)

Ashwagandha

GABA

my partner suffered anxiety and depression. He ended up hitting the drink badly. Since taking L-tyrosine 2 in the morning and 1 5THP at night he’s been amazing. Back to being able to go out have a few beers and go to bed . I really was ready for leaving him until I discovered this on line .
