I want to start a local support group but my anxiety is gonna make that hard. I want to connect with other people around me managing anxiety, depression, and/or PTSD. I feel I need to do this. I think it will help my anxiety. Has anyone done this before?

Support Group
Hi, I'm in Chicago too. Many opportunities in starting support groups on your own or calling some of the larger hospitals and asking if they provide one.
Years ago I contacted 3 teaching hospitals that agreed to put on Community lecture in regards to Mitral Valve Prolapse, Anxiety and Fibromyalgia. Over 200plus responses at each hospital It was a successful night. Most of them were the people who had contacted me through the internet after placing a post on line. The hospital took all the calls. Even though it's only a one night seminar, you will get the best Psychiatric doctors on staff who will be speaking as well as answering questions after the meeting.
If you still consider doing this on your own, churches and libraries are usually open to giving you a room (free) for your weekly meeting. AA is just one of the weekly meetings held in private places.
My friend once started a Fibromyalgia lunch support where we met every week both social as well as supportive. There are many ways you can handle putting together a group. My advise is to keep it out of your home. Stay safe and good luck. I wish you success. p.s. They are helpful xx
