So I am starting to taper my lexapro and begin Zoloft. Any good experiences changing to Zoloft. I have been on lexapro for about 14 years. So damn tired of this anxiety. Psychiatrist seems to think my Lexapro has pooped out

When did your Lexapro begin it's ineffectiveness? Did doctor explain why he chose Zoloft as a substitute?

About a month ago. Up my dose and really didn’t help. He chose Zoloft because it was one I never had taken.

I was prescribed Zoloft when I first was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at 16 years old. I’m 21 now and have been on it ever since. We’ve been able to just adjust the dosage depending on how I’m doing but i always take the Zoloft over anything else. And I’ve loved it. It saved my life when I began taking it and along with other medications, it’s been the winner in my books

Jen, so you were only on Lexapro for the entire 14 years? Has anything changed in your life style recently? But your doctor never explained why he chose Zoloft raher than anything else? Is your doctor general MD or psychiatrist?

Yes. I am 45. My 20s were terrible and had tried several different meds. Zoloft was not one I had ever tried. I am seeing a psychiatrist now. Previously my family doctor who wanted to add halodal. That’s when I made an appointment with a psychiatrist

You are answering some important questions. From your post and first answer, I was confused. It appeared as though you had used only one medication(Lexapro) for an entire 14 years, and never mention any other meds you have tried. This is also the first time you appeared to seek help from a psychiatrist.

So you have had been on other meds and dealt with anxiety for 25 years with a family doctor and not a psychiatrist.

Yes, chronic anxiety appears to become a lifestyle with you and that is not a pleasant way to live. You have chosen to change the specialist you are seeking for care and that specialist is eliminating RX meds that you have not tried. That shows insight on your part and realistic decision by your new psychiatrist. Medications do not solve all the issues with anxiety and therapy may be a partnership you could use with the new meds. Perhaps you could discuss that with your psychiatrist to get the most from the changes in medication and physician specialist you have chosen. I have no idea if Zoloft will improve your anxiety on its own, or if it will be better than the medications you tried previously, but it looks like a plan....and if therapy is added, perhaps some answers may be found that cause the anxiety. My best wishes to you and decreased anxiety with the wise decisions you have made.xx

Jen I am in a similar situation as you are except I have been on Zoloft on and off for almost 19 yrs. when I started getting panic attacks I thought I was going to die or never recover. Zoloft totally saved me and worked amazing. After being on it for so long I feel it stopped helping a few yrs ago I have had some episodes and finally went to a psychiatrist a few wks ago and they want me to change to Lexapro. I git off my Zoloft and have not started it yet. I am worried about side effects and how it will make me feel. But now in past few wks anxiety getting bad bc of not being on anything I am thinking of trying it after work today.. I don’t want to be at work starting a new med. I know so many people on Zoloft. It was awesome!

I hear everything you are saying. Sounds like we are going through the same thing. Lexapro worked wonders for years for me. But as the psychiatrist said. I had a good run with. I am trying to work and take meds. And just deep breathing. Please keep in touch! I think we can do this together
