I've recently come down with severe depression due to some health issues I'm having involving my gut and neurological system. I'm told it will pass with time but I'm finding it harder and harder to keep my head up. If there is anybody out there who is or has dealt with depression and would be willing to talk with me it would be greatly appreciated. I live in Seattle, WA and would like to find a group or somebody that would be willing to grab a coffee. I feel if I can understand what this is like, things to expect, ways to cope, anything; it might help me get through this. I feel selfish because this sin't suppose to last forever, but I've read it can take up to 8 months. I'm in week 2 and it's getting pretty rough. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm unfortunately without health insurance and haven't found access to professional help. Trying to DIY. I've also seen friends struggle with medication and committed to making it through this without.
Thank you in advance.

If you live in a large city there is often a few different places to access your mental health service at little or no cost. I have put two of the most useful US websites here for you.
Have you seen a doctor for an assessment of your level of depression and a treatment plan?
Self help treatment and psychotherapy can be useful for mild depression but medication in addition to psychotherapy is indicated for moderate to severe depression conditions.
The most important piece of advice I received about depression, after seeing my doctor, was to get my sleep under control. To get enough and to get quality unbroken hours was the key. Everything else from nutritition, exercise, mediation etc helps but sleep, you can't do without it to recover from the day and prepare for the next one.
