I have experienced depression and anxiety from before I can remember and have been in and out of therapy for years. However, recently it has become so much harder to cope. For the first time, I have been given medication and I'm worried about how this will impact my life. I know I need the help because I haven't left my house in three months and am finding it difficult to talk to friends and family. I guess I'm just worried. Any advice?

I'm new here and looking for support
hi welcome to the forum talking always feels so hard but in reality getting out our worries is usually a relief and most families/friends are supportive of us.being new to medication might be difficult for a few weeks but after that it`s usually ok.
Welcome to the group. First off, I would suggest that you discuss these concerns with your provider. They should be able to learn about the benefits and risks of the medication Different people have different experiences with the same medication. It may take some time before you see results. Please don't rely on or expect the mads alone to deal with depression. They are a sometimes necessary component to treatment. Primarily symptom relief.Hang in there and good luck
Thank you! I have a talking therapy session set up for Monday and will continue with the combined method for maximum effect. I'm only worried about the medication because there's so much stigma around it that it leaves you wondering just how beneficial it can be you know?
I'm on meds and back in counseling after 5 years of being ok. There is no shame at all in either of them-in my case both are so helpful.
Try not to be influenced by the stigma. No one need know that you take meds.Everyone reacts differ to meds. It may take a while till you find the right one. Don't give up..Also don't expect " overnight " results.
I'm definitely trying to block it all out. It took me years to even accept that I might need medication, let alone taking it. I've decided that only my family and closest friends will know so that I don't have it hanging over me. My GP said it could take up to two weeks and that it will be rough. I'm really anxious about that.
Hi,
Thank you for sharing with us honestly about how you feel. Sorry you are having a tough time. I hope things will brighten up for you soon. Please stay strong, we are here for you.
It’s good to hear that you have scheduled therapy, I hope it goes well. Praying for you that God will give you strength and peace that you need each day.
Thank you! I appreciate the support.
Hi Ashquaffle, I'm glad you choose to go on medication in order to help break thatcycle of fear begets fear. Therapy is good in helping you choose a different path but
it's the med that will change your way of thinking helping you to go forward.
You need to break the cycle of the 3 months you have been staying in. I was Agoraphobic
and at the beginning it can feel comfortable but then it gets down right boring because
you are just existing and not living.
What got me out and about again was finding other tools to use along with the meds and therapy. The tools for me was learning about the Mind/Body Connection and how we think can hinder or change our outlook on life. YouTube has many videos on Positive Affirmations as well as Meditation and Breathing. Your thinking needs to change to a more positive approach.
It's important since it's our subconscious mind that plays back our day while we sleep.
If it's a negative input that is what your brain will think is normal and you will wake up
to the same ole story day after day.
Doing meditation daily upon awakening, mid afternoon and before bed, will retrain your
mind and allow you to sleep more calmly, waking up on a more positive note.
Give your medication time to work efficiently. Wishing you well xx
