Hello, I'm 22 and I've been suffering with anxiety for about 7 years now. I avoid most things that I know will bring on an attack, but it seems the older I get the more I need to do and the harder it gets to control it. I can't keep any food down, I can't sleep. Does it get any better or is this what I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life?

Thanks for sharing with the forum.

Anxiety is treatable so don't think "this is as good as it gets". The first step is to see your doctor for a complete physical and mental check up. Make a longer appointment than usual so that you can cover everything you need to say. Making notes helps decrease your level of anxiety about the doctor's visit. You could even take a print out of the blog to get the discussion started. :)

The first treatment goal from my experience is to target sleep. Quality sleep is important for the repair and prepare function of your brain. You might like to take natural sleep supplement if a prescribed medication is not your preference.

Users of the forum regularly recommend some talking therapy (psychotherapy) with a counselor or psychologist to address the anxiety at it's source and learn some measures for coping.

Of course, there are lots of self help ideas which we can suggest as well.

I've had anxiety and PTSD since I was 11. I Am now 28 and nothing has been more liberating than going to a psychiatrist and getting on medication. Take it from someone who let their early to mid twenties become ruined by it all...seek help if you aren't already. There is a way to feel better. There are many. It's a journey. All love and peace!
