I was searching the Internet and came across a new treatment for depression! Has anyone heard of NeuroStar TMS Therapy to help reduce their depression systems? It's FDA approved, its scary and a little over whelming, but if it works???

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) Therapy is a reasonably new tool in the kit for psychiatrists. It has been used in Australia since 2009.

TMS is a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of depression. TMS is typically used when other depression treatments haven't been effective.

By all accounts, TMS seems to work for depression and with few side effects reported. TMS is quick, around 20 minutes and cheaper than ECT.

In the scheme of treatments, I guess you would try TMS before ECT.

As always, be guided by your mental health professional :)

I was doing exactly the same as I knew about ECT but thought it was a bit extreme and came across TMS. It has quite good reports and is available on NHS apparently but with long waiting lists. I intend to speak to my doctor about it.

It would definitely be something to look into! I'm kind of scared, the thoughts of something messing with my Brain makes my anxiety sky rocket!!!

In the us it's approved by FDA -- it costs £2,000 a week for 4-6 weeks so a little pricey to go privately. I cancelled by Insurance but it didn't cover Mental Health to that amount! I've looked at quite a few recommendations. I feel it gives me hope but would have to see what doc says. Look after yourself

I'm actually trying to get my insurance to cover it right now. I tried so many medications without any luck. I'm willing to try it to feel better. I think you have to go 5 days a week, for about a month and it's like half hour sessions.
