When anxiety is high we let our thoughts control us.
During this time- our thoughts are scary and disturbing. It makes us feel messed up and wonder why we would even THINK this way. The fact that we are capable of coming up with such images and thoughts makes us feel like there is indeed something wrong with us. We get so mad at ourselves for once again having a new disturbing thought to obsess about. "Great, here we go again. More self judgement, more distorted thinking, more side effects....WHY CANT I BE NORMAL?"
... you CAN.
The reason you still feel this way is indeed your THOUGHTS. You tell yourself you can't handle things & you believe it. You are in control of your body and mind (even when you don't feel like you are). The fact that you tell yourself you can't handle certain thoughts and feelings adds importance to these thoughts/feelings and that's why they won't go away.
Do you understand?
YOU ARE ALWAYS IN CONTROL.
You are in control of the negative thoughts you have. YOU ARE. You feel like you aren't because you have developed such a habit that sometimes these thoughts come out of nowhere and you think they aren't in your control. But they are. It's just a habit you need to break..
How do you break this habit? When the thought comes.. you GIVE IT NO POWER. Yes you can acknowledge that it's there. Don't drive you're self crazy trying to ignore it because that'll add more power. Just be like "oh hey anxiety, what up?" Say hey to the disturbing thought and let it pass through. I know I know. Your stomach is probably churning and you probably are having some other symptoms of doubt and what not. But also, say "oh hey anxiety" to the symptom and move on. Anxiety is NOT YOU. You are a separate person from anxiety. All you think about is your symptoms and all you think about is your fears and disturbing thoughts SO of course you have anxious thoughts all the time. This is another habit you need to break. YOU DONT NEED TO READ ANOTHER SELF HELP BOOK. You know all the knowledge you need know at this point. I know it's comforting to read them but you need to TRUST yourself again. Trust comes with practice. Next time you feel anxious put all your knowledge to use! I know it feels scary but aren't you sick of living like this? You can handle this. Push through the discomfort. You got this. Don't let anxiety control you anymore!!!
I hope this was helpful to those who are dealing with a mind that feels like it's against you.
But remember- it's only against you because you made it that way.
You are the one who created the monster in your head and so you are the only one who can defeat it. Stop telling yourself lies and then your mind and body will stop believing them.
Good luck guys. You got dis.
