Hi, I just joined this support group. I'm a 57 year old female that has been suffering from depression since my teens, but never as bad as I have this last year and a half. I have wondered about the role menopause plays in the severity of depression. Anyone have any info on that?

Introduction... Severe Depression
I have always had severe anxiety and depression all my life but when I went through menopause I thought I would lose my mind. Go to your doctor for hormone replacement therapy and maybe anxiety meds. Good luck!
Thanks for your input.
I have been through menopause ( about thirteen years ago), and do remember having been hit hard- now I go day to day.
I also take 5 STP and that seems to help a little. I get that at a whole foods store. I also take another herb ashawaganga ( Spelling)?
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.
I was already treated for major depression and GAD before I hit menopause which caused me to need hormone replacement therapy as I approached menopause. I had night sweats and hot flashes and some other mood problems but the HRT helped and continues to help me still, 3 years after I finally reached menopause. I did not have any increase in my depression or anxiety problems due to perimenopause or menopause. They were completely unaffected.
I finally figured out that my depression is linked to guilt and shame. I cannot let it go. HELP
