Could you try listening to music or podcasts with headphones in? Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed keeping myself distracted and tuning out the problem is the only thing that works. I like listening to The Dave Ryan Show on iheartradio. Hearing other people talk and focusing on that helps me a lot. Maybe later you could send a message to your housemates saying that the arguing bothers you and to keep it civil and not raise their voices.
Thanks I've got my favourite show on YouTube in the background (lots of talking, and one of the people in it has a really calming voice) I', trying to just focus on my work. It's all clam now so hopefully I should be able to focus for the rest of the night. I said at the beginning of the year I wanted no arguments as this is my final year at uni and my entire degree classification depends on me passing this year. It never stopped them arguing though
