Please advise on B12

Having had chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia as well as Hashimotos for several years. My symptoms have increased since being treated for h pylori.

I am beginning to wonder if I am deficient in B12.

My blood tests are always high in range or massively above.

I am thinking of getting private blood test done by Medichecks, but don't know whether to have the strait B12 test or the Intrinsic factor test. To have both is very expensive.

Has anyone been in the same position and can advise please?

I think you might get more answers to your question from the Thyroid uk community here on HU

Hi Everdean,

You could try that but you need a holistic look at yourself - I can’t remember their name but there’s a company that do a range of tests for about £20 for exactly this - If you’re interested I can get my sister to dig it out for you.

Hello Everdean,

As others have suggested you may find more help for Hashimotos on the Thyroid UK ( healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk ) community plus there's also a Pernicious Anemia group that talk about B12 too ( healthunlocked.com/pasoc )

However, have you asked the doctor to test your B12 if in the UK? If so, what did s/he say? I think improving your gut health, microbiome plus looking at small intestinal bacteria overgrowth & candida can help reduce Fibromyalgia symptoms. Obviously, also treating your Hashimotos and finding the right medication is also important so Thyroid UK can help advise plus provide info on private blood tests.

Do you know if the h pylori treatment is working? Do they test you again afterwards?

I take something called Monolaurin which is made from Coconuts (that have antiviral properties) and I feel this is helping my Gut Health. It might be worth looking into :)

I wish you well and hope you get the answers you need to improve your health & symptoms very soon.

Emma :)
