CBD oil?

hi - has anyone taken CBD oil (20% x 2 drops under tongue) whilst on flecainide and bisoprolol ? I haven’t taken it since being on tablets but wanted to as a painkiller . Interested if anyone in community has tried it?

thanks

Update 25th Jan : just saw cardiologist and he said fine to take CBD oil for me. He checked I wasn’t on anticoagulants though ( which I’m not) as he said warfarin for example would be a different case ,but didn’t elaborate. As I’m on flecainide and bisoprol he said fine and to all the other things I asked him for joint pain: glucosamine, turmeric etc etc!) . Obviously this is just in my specific case but interesting maybe.

Whether CBD oil actually works as some have mentioned is another thing of course but willing to try most things to take edge off the pain!

thanks for everyone’s’ input 🙏

Good Morning, I would recommend you contact your Dr for advice, We suggest that any additional supplements/herbal remedies should be checked in advance to ensure they are safe and suitable to take, but mostly do not interact with any other prescribed medication.

If you have any other questions, please contact our Patient Services Team; heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...

Kind regards

Thanks - yes I’m cautious. I’ve got osteoarthritis and at times fares and is maddeningly painful. Seeing cardiologist on Thursday and will ask but ii suspect he’ll concur with the other comments here re: not enough data on drug: drug interactions.

Thought I’d ask anyway on the off chance everyone was merrily imbibing

Thanks

If you have other underlying health conditions, you will certainly require 1:1 advice. I have attached the link to the NHS Medicine webpage for future reference: nhs.uk/medicines/

I would be surprised if the doctor advised re CBD oil. I would suggest you speak to a Pharmacist. All I can say is that it was OK with Bisoprolol on occasion. 😉

Our local health food shop owned by a nurse, advised there is not enough research regarding interactions at present for them to sell it to me. I was asking re flec and apixaban.

Hi

I haven’t personally taken it, but it was prescribed by a pain management specialist for my husband’s neck pain. It was a wafer you put under your tongue but did nothing for the pain and made him feel foggy in the mind. He was told to go off his nerve pain medication Lyrica whilst taking it, so actually felt more pain than usual. My husband doesn’t have AF so not sure about how it would react with AF meds. Hope this helps a little.

I have taken it on advice from pharmacist who was a specialist in that area - referred to him by my surgery pharmacist. It didn't have any effect on my other medications - which he said it wouldn't - only on apixaban for AF but even though he upped the strength of the CBD and I used CBD cream on my neck and back as well it made no difference to my back and neck pain unfortunately so no longer take it.

I got the opposite advice from my Cardio , and I also checked myself. Depending on which pharmaceutical formulary info you check they say that bisoprolol does have a moderate interaction with CBD, and some suggest Flecainide is the same and CBD is better avoided orally.

Not criticizing your Cardio in any way as often they and pharmacists aren't sure and assume CBD is safe , did he look it up on his computer or just state it was ok?

The amount of posts I read on various HU forums including a OTC medication or supplement that they've checked on with the Doctor or Pharmacy which they've said is fine (without them looking it up or double checking) and actually has the possibility of interactions is larger than you'd think.

Most of the medications I take have some level of interaction with CBD oil , in fact more than 60% of prescribed medications are processed by the same enzyme and pathway in the liver as Cannabinoids.

It's why I really think the TV adverts should be made to be more responsible and have disclaimers on them to stop people from just taking them, especially if they take various liver , kidney and heart medications or other pain killers and antidepressants.

Because of this interaction you can get a build up of medication in the bloodstream as it is both harder to process the prescribed meds and eliminate any excess from the body by taking both orally.

CBD creams , like topical glucosamine or Magnesium lotions don't have the same issue. Have you tried Flexiseq cream , it can be a bit pricey but it gets recommended the most by forum members with joint issues , and is usually safe to use with most medications.

Pernaton gel is also a good option.

It's like Magnesium supplements . Fine for some on certain doses or medications whom don't have other health or blood pressure problems but it can be harmful to others, especially if they have periods of low blood pressure or heart rate , bradycardia.

Personally, I'd try topical or something else if you have found it works but I've not heard of any of my friends with OA that have had significant results from it. The one that did said it didn't fix the pain in itself but it helped her relax more at night and it's probably the lack of tension that helped her feel a bit less painful in terms of her pain score not the pain killing effect of the CBD itself.

I'd double check if I were you , take care , Bee

Thanks Bee : haven’t tried flexiseq but will look it up.

No, my cardiologist just said it’s ok , didn’t look anything up . Hmmm .

Thanks I’ll take a look at other options first. 🙏

It's sadly a very common thing to happen. Some doctors and pharmacists strangely assume things in the same way lay people like us might , that just because something is an OTC product it will be fine . Or if they don't rate it as being particularly useful, they have no interest in natural complimentary medicine, or they don't see it as powerful, that people might as well try it as even if it does no good it won't do you any harm either.

It's not a very professional attitude, and especially when it comes to things that people more commonly try I really think they should have these facts sent to them to read or on a wall chart to check before making a blanket statement through lack of interest or knowledge.

You might want to do a check on your other supplements as well against the medications you take with a drug checker , just to be on the safe side. Take care , Bee
