Latest Treatments for Advanced Prostate Cancer

I asked my computer (Bing) for the latest treatments for advanced prostate cancer. Response follows:

There are several treatments available for advanced prostate cancer, which is prostate cancer that has spread beyond the prostate to other parts of the body. The choice of treatment depends on many factors, such as the extent and location of the cancer, the type and effectiveness of previous treatments, the age and overall health of the person, and the potential benefits and side effects of each option.

Some of the latest treatments for advanced prostate cancer are:

Lutetium-177-PSMA-617 (LuPSMA): This is a type of targeted radiotherapy that uses a molecule that binds to a protein called prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), which is found on most prostate cancer cells. The molecule carries a radioactive particle that delivers radiation directly to the cancer cells, killing them while sparing normal cells. LuPSMA has been shown to improve survival and delay cancer progression in men with advanced prostate cancer who have previously received hormone therapy and chemotherapy12. LuPSMA is not yet approved by the FDA, but it is expected to receive approval soon.

Olaparib (Lynparza): This is a type of targeted therapy that belongs to a class of drugs called PARP inhibitors. PARP inhibitors block an enzyme called PARP, which helps repair damaged DNA in cells. By blocking PARP, these drugs prevent cancer cells from fixing their DNA errors, causing them to die. Olaparib has been shown to improve survival and delay cancer progression in men with advanced prostate cancer who have mutations in genes involved in DNA repair, such as BRCA1 or BRCA234. Olaparib was approved by the FDA in 2020 for this group of men.

Rucaparib (Rubraca): This is another type of PARP inhibitor that works similarly to olaparib. Rucaparib has been shown to improve survival and delay cancer progression in men with advanced prostate cancer who have mutations in genes involved in DNA repair, such as BRCA1 or BRCA25 . Rucaparib was approved by the FDA in 2020 for this group of men.

Enzalutamide (Xtandi): This is a type of hormone therapy that blocks the action of testosterone, which fuels prostate cancer growth. Enzalutamide has been shown to improve survival and delay cancer progression in men with advanced prostate cancer who have previously received hormone therapy or chemotherapy6 . Enzalutamide was approved by the FDA in 2012 for this group of men.

These are some examples of the latest treatments for advanced prostate cancer, but they are not the only ones. There are other treatments that may be suitable for some men, such as immunotherapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery. Your doctor can help you decide which treatment is best for you based on your specific situation and preferences.😊

I google often concerning the latest and greatest prostate cancer treatments. Looks like most new options are for mcrpc. I was hoping LU-177 was gonna be a long life extender. However, I have been reading several cases where treatment has been stopped due to a quick rise in PSA and progression of disease. Hopefully some more testing can provide insight on who will or won’t have success with this option. I believe the next five years will change SOC for all of us.

I notice it doesn't mention that expensive Xtandi has not been shown to be superior to cheap Abi in a head to head trial.
