Hello everyone, first of all I want to say you've all been a huge help reading and navigating all the information. I have some questions I would like some advice on: my dad is in a special situation because his PSA at diagnosis was massive: 3100 on Nov.28 2022. Metastatic Prostate Cancer with bone mets and lymph nodes around pelvis. He actually needed surgery and had a stent for kidneys because his prostate was so large.
He was given Firmagon (Degarelix 240mg) on Dec.2. His PSA dropped to 500 on Dec.28. He's been much better since.
January 2: Second dose of Firmagon 80mg.
We finally got to see an oncologist two days ago, who recommends Zytiga and Chemo concurrently as soon as possible.
We did another blood test as advised, but his PSA rose to 600. Obviously everyone expected it to go down. He started taking Zytiga today, and then we expect chemo in the next two weeks.
I can't wrap my head around the possibility that resistance is already happening in 7 weeks. Am I missing something or just plain unlucky? His Testosterone as tested today is 0.046 ng/ml. Same lab. He also has BPH, so maybe he didn't take his medications for it that day? But all I read doesn't indicate a difference of number of 100.
Thank you.
