One last battle

Yesterday I learned that my PSA went from 14 to 19 in 3 weeks and scans show my cancer is progressing in bones, liver and bladder. I was taken off the (3rd) trial and told that there’s nothing else for me in the MD Anderson Cancer Center GU oncology department. Sent home to do cabazitaxel/carboplatin after Christmas.

My question: what side effects might I experience on this chemo combo? I only had fatigue (and hair loss) when I did taxotere.

I wish you all happy holidays. Every day is precious.

I had 12 rounds of this combo. Up until round11. Scans showed disease stability while PSA kept rising.. Started having low red blood cell count, hemoglobin and hematocrit; all indicating bone marrow issues. My 12th and last round was Nov 1, 2022.

No real significant initial side effects.

Recently met with RO that offers Pluvicto. Told me I do qualify. But now waiting for the material to become available; maybe some time in January.

Also meeting with another RO next week to discuss recent MRI of thoracic spine results and related back pain remedies.

thank you. I have heard that this combo has fewer side effects than taxotere.

Pluvicto will work at least as well as cabazitaxel and will cause fewer side effects. See this study:

urotoday.com/conference-hig...

You can take cabazitaxel after pluvicto if the cancer starts to grow again.

I asked about Pluctivo which would certainly go after my PSMA-avid liver mets but it’s a 2 month wait and my oncologist said I can’t afford to wait that long to start treatment.

You can still get pluvicto after cabazitaxel. Here is an article about the cabazitaxel/carboplatin combination: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/315...

Maybe you can see Dr. Iyengar if he can help you. He is an excellent RO.

Oh d*mn my Brother, hate to hear of f'in PCa progressing. In my case 15 Taxotere initially did well with the 1st round, 2nd round with 6 rechallenge was Meh, and 18 Cabazitaxel also Meh.

Asked for Carboplatin combo, but both MOs refused :-(. My PSA went from 6.9 to 9.2 in a month. PSMA scan showed Prostate with a huge SUV @ 87.5, but no mets.

Up next IMRT 5 days/week for 8 weeks

My best to you my Brother, Keep the Faith and Fight on

My dad had this combination, it didn't affect him more than Taxotere, symptom wise. He had neulasta given to help. It did affect his kidney function and the amount of carbo had to be lowered for the final sessions.

My husband had 8 rounds of this cocktail January-June of this year and tolerated it well. 68 years old and worked full time. Only missed work during the infusions.

that’s good news. I hope to have few to no side effects too!

completely different stage to you but I mixed chemo ( Docetaxel ? with Lu-177 so what about start the chemo but moving over to Lu-177 as soon as it comes available) . I Follow a guy in uk on Twitter who was out of options but then got Lu-177 under licience on NHS and is doing well ( appreciate they need to FDG scan to check you are not high risk of repopulation but worth asking if the plan can be a combo? ) .

I will definitely look into Lu-177 after chemo. Thanks!

Been on cab for six cycles mets on liver, bladder , lymph , lung and possibility two bone spots. Doing bone scan to see if it is there or just a wrong reading. The bladder had resolved, the lung resolved, the lymph nodes resolved. The Mets are still on the liver but the largest one has decreased in size , PSA is at 25.7 from over 48 when started. The next treatment would be pluvicto but if it does not work then it is over that is my fear. I wish you the best and enjoy the holidays as best as you can, keep praying.
