My husband has been on Lynparza since April. His psa was 19 last month it’s now 30. Next step immunotherapy. I pray this works. He has the CDK 12 mutation. Dear God something has to start working. Any ideas or advice?

Please tell us more. What other treatments has your husband had? What was his Gleason score? Immunotherapy such as Provenge is generally reserved for low tumor burden patients who are metastatic and have failed androgen deprivation therapy.

He has a Gleason score 9. He is castrate resistant. He gets shots of Lupron every six months and also has been on Zytiga. That didn’t work well for him at all and now on the Lynparza as I mentioned which is not working. Hope this immunotherapy works.

You did not mention xtandi which is a possibility. I don't know who pronounced him castrate resistant but it sounds like he has not been through that many drugs or radiation.

Magnus I was told that Xtandi was another adt drug which would probably not work seen as though he failed Lupron and Zytiga. I was told it’s like Zytiga. Is this true. It’s so hard for me to understand all of this. Sometimes I feel like my pain on here and so repetitive. I feel so lost.

Zytiga and xtandi are not the same. They both block testosterone from the cancer cell but using different methods. Xtandi is one of the "-lutimides", i.e., casodox, amplitude, etc. Zytiga works in a different way.

I feel your desperation and frustration. My husband also has the CDK12 mutation. He hasn't had Lynparza yet, but his doctor is enthusiastic about having that option. He had Provenge immunotherapy last summer and has been on Xtandi since August (as well as Lupron). Does Lynparza cause elevation in PSA because of cells dying and being sloughed off? Provenge does this-it can be alarming.

That’s a very good question. I have no idea. His psa was 19 3 weeks ago And actually I looked in the patient portal because I found it this morning it’s actually 31.6. In a months time. His, Is it AlK is 96

I'm so sorry you are having distress.I am not familiar with the initial effects of Lynparza but a good point was made about possibly PCa cells that are dying off being picked up in the PSA test. This often happens with many of the treatments but I don't know if it is true with Lynparza. Maybe ?

Do you have a good relationship/communication with his Oncologist ?

You need to have the input from his Oncologist I believe as he has only been on the Lynparza a couple of months.

The ALK Phos number 96 does not seem very alarming. Possibly just a little bit high but what was it before he started Lynparza.

Hopefully an appointment with his Oncologist is coming up soon and your fears will be downgraded. You said you got the PSA result from looking at his online chart so I assume it has not yet been discussed with his Dr.

Not what you're looking for?
