LUPRRon OR ZOLADEX

Along with Zytiga ( abiraterone) I am on 3 monthly injection of Zoladex ( gosarellin). My PSA is undetectable.

I have noticed that most people seem to be on 3 monthly injection of Lupron. I’m in Vancouver Canada.

They both do a similar thing but has anyone tried the 2 or switched from one to the other because of side effects?

I do sweat a bit when it’s hot eg 24 centigrade and above and sweat ALOT above 30 C but I have attributed it to the Zytiga and It’s not like I wake up sweating st all like others have reported.

I hope to be on Zytiga and Zoladex combo for a while ( 18 months so far). I feel my side effects are minimal and I continue to ski, hike and play soccer, and drink a ‘ few’ glasses of beer and wine over a week.. But I’m not as fast (in soccer, not drinking!)and attribute this to the lack of testosterone and 15lbs of extra belly fat!!

But I want to maximize my QOL, if something is better.

I have also switched from 5mg prednisone to 0.5mg of dexamethasone to give my body a change. Have not noticed any significant differences since the switch.

Consider stopping beer.. I tend to attribute 15 lbs of belly fat to beer...well known "beer belly:

I do try to drink a bit more red wine and water instead of beer... but after soccer, a pint of red wine is not quite the same as a pint of cold craft beer lol!

Yep, soak you feet in the wine and drink the beer...

No reason to switch from Zoladex if it's working. Some side effects, especially body changes, may be worse with dexamethasone, but if it's OK for you, then it's ok.

Thanks Tall Allen. Overall steroid use per day has dropped from 5 mg of prednisone to 0,5mg dexamethasone so good for long term lower steroid use?

Body changes like what...bigger breasts?

Read the article. That is not a drop in steroid use. Dexamethasone is much more potent than prednisone.

Ok thanks! There were a couple of articles I have read and I can’t find them this minute and I don’t remember potency comparisons on my reading but presumably that’s why 0.5mg dexamethasone and 5mg prednisone for hormone resistant prostate cancer and 10mg prednisone castrate resistant prostate cancer.

My MO scripted me 1.5mg per day dexamethasone but I told him this week my literature reading showed 0.5mg daily so he agreed to 0.5mg dexamethadone.
